Minutes of Meeting for June 28, 2018

Minutes of Meeting for June 28, 2018

  1. Call to Order:   Bill E.  led us in the Pledge and then we sang God Bless America.  Bill then turned the meeting over to Barb and Susan.
  2. Hostesses:  Barb L. and Susan D.  Barbara reported 39 in attendance today which is pretty good for summer.  She welcomed back Adria and Gail, Ed and Elaine and Kate came back and joined us!  Welcome Kate!
  3. Vice President:   Debbi S.:  As of this morning, we are now back up to 112 members.
  4. Secretary:   Kristi G.:   No corrections to the minutes and they were accepted.
  5. Treasurer:  Walt R.:   Walt reports $2,204.46 in the bank.   Please people, remember to put your money in the pot for coffee “and”.  It’s $2.00 for a cup of coffee which includes all refills; $1.00 for sweets. Thanks much.
At this time Walt brought up the subject of the Christmas party.  The Taste of Texas is now known as Barnfire Mesquite Grill and Walt asked if we all wanted to have the party there again this year.  We took a vote and it was unanimous that yes, we all wanted to have it there.  Then the subject of the music was brought up and the fact that most everyone leaves after eating and visiting and that we probably could save that money and not have the music.  We took a vote on that as well and again it was unanimous that no, we did not want the music.   We did select a date for the party and that will be Tuesday December 18.
  1. Coordinators Reports:
Sunshine Mary M.:  Mary spoke with Jorge and his back is getting better, but he had some eye surgery that required 5 stitches.  Ouch.  His wife Carol is doing much better.  Nancy Pearson had some heart issues (AFIB) and will now have a pacemaker put in on Monday.  Let’s remember these dear folks in our prayers please.
·         Historian:  Magda Q.:   No report, but thanks for the tabs and she still expects lots of them to come back from the mountains with SCRCR North people upon their return 😊
·         Philanthropy:     Sandy reports $76.00 last week for the food bank.  Good work folks.
·         Activities:  See activities listed below.  Note:  When you sign up for an activity, please let whoever oversees that activity know whether or not you’ll make it.  It’s embarrassing if you tell a place that 30 or 40 folks are coming to a function, so they set up for that, get extra help for that and then only 20 or so show up.    Please remember to RSVP if you are going to attend something and to let the person in charge know if you can’t make it.  Thanks.

  1. Group Concerns/Good of the Group

  • Sandy wanted to thank everyone who made it to her grandson Scott’s restaurant Fiamme last Wednesday.  They had a wonderful time and Sandy even had to help “bus’ tables, they were so busy.  Scott was able to do a little of his award-winning dough spinning for them.  She will be getting another date for those who missed this one.
  • We discussed Fry’s and the remodel some more and were told that there will be 5 cashiers during the day along with the self-serve check-outs but that at night, it will just be the self-serve.  Also, Deb said they had hand-held scanners when you first enter the store by the produce section that you can take with you and scan as you shop.  Then just one last scan at the check-out.  Oh, please God, make it STOP!!!!  Just give us the “good old days” and actual live people in the stores, at the doctor’s offices, on the phones, at the banks……  Sorry, I get carried away sometimes what with all this technology!
  • Barb Leibowitz had some disconcerting news about the post office that they are “redistricting” so some mail may be later than normal or like in Barb’s case, not at all.    She had to go to the post office to get her mail and there was still some missing.  Not a good thing.

  1. Thought for the Day:  Sandy P.  Sandy’s thought for the day: “F.E.A.R.  has two meanings – Forget Everything And Run OR Face Everything And Rise - the choice is yours.”
Her joke of the day:  Mrs. Esposito comes to visit her son Anthony and his female roommate
Maria for dinner.  During the course of the meal, Anthony’s mother couldn’t help but notice how pretty his roommate Maria was.  Over the course of the evening, while watching the two interact, she started to wonder if there was more between them than met the eye.  Reading his mother’s thoughts Anthony volunteered “I know what you must be thinking, but I assure you that Maria and I are just roommates.  About a week later, Maria came to Anthony saying “ever since your mother came to dinner, I can’t find the silver sugar bowl.  You don’t suppose she took it, do you?”  Anthony said he doubted it, but he said he’d e-mail his mother and ask her and he did that.  “Dear Momma, I’m not saying that you “did” take the sugar bowl from my house; I’m not saying that you “did not” take it, but the fact remains that it’s been missing ever since you were here for dinner, signed Your Loving Son”.  A few days later Anthony received a reply from his mother.  “Dear Son, I’m not saying that you “do” sleep with Maria, I’m not saying that you “do not” sleep with her.  BUT, the fact remains that if she was sleeping in her OWN bed, she would have found the sugar bowl by now.  Signed, Your Loving Mama”.  Moral:  Never Bulla shita you Mama! 😊
  1. Adjournment:  Bill E.: Bill adjourned the meeting at 10:08 AM.
