S.C.R.C.R. TIME LINE FOR 2005

Trips, Dinners, Appointments, and Other Noteworthy Events.

January 6: 42 present. Snowbird Charles Iverson was introduced.

January 13: 40 present. (1) Doris Piper and June Taylor were introduced. (2) Joan Marchese has lost a son. (3) Gladys made a motion re collections for deaths. It passed by majority, after amendment and discussion. For the death of a member or spouse, a collection will be taken among members and the Treasurer will bring it up to $100 if the amount collected is less than that -- ditto at $50 for a child,.

January 20: ? present. (1) Mary Mooney was welcomed. (2) Former member Lori Matiatos died of Lou Gehrig’s disease (ALS). (3) The hiking group went to Parker Lake then wine tasting in Elgin.

January 27: 49 present. (1) We are running out of chairs and space. (2) Moved by June, Seconded by Frank T, we approved spending $25 to reserve a Picacho Peak site for a Mothers Day picnic.

February 1: The following new members may not have been recorded in previous minutes but they appear on the current roster: Susan Carberry, Peter & Muriel Ingoglia, Charles & Carrol Iverson, Anna & Janet Kline, Earl & Marge Leibforth, Walter Radwick, Mary Sacks, Al & Grace Van Horn.

February 3: 40 present: (1) Sons of the Pioneers group was enjoyed by 18 members. (2) Hikers went to Cochise.

February 10: 32 present. (1) Carol & Ed Altmann are down with the flu, also Stan Stein. (2) Don Vosburg and Al Taylor had cataract surgery and are doing fine. (3) Donna is still having knee pain. (4) 22 went to lunch at Barefoot Contessa (5) 15 went to Tubac. (6) Janet mentioned that Frank was practicing for his concert. (7) 12 went on the Feb 8th hike.
March 10: 49 present. (1) June’s neighbor Arlene (?) was welcomed. (2) Connie was back in the hospital. (3) Betty was welcomed back after her operation. (4) 19 went to Reid Park Zoo. (5) 23 went to lunch at Heritage Highlands. (6) 5 went to the MH band concert. (7) The hiking group climbed Picacho Peak. (8) The CR Book Club had their first meeting discussing The Good Earth by Pearl S. Buck.March 17: 33 present. (1) Bo announced Spanish lessons. (2) Lew and Agnes celebrated their 10th anniversary in SCRCR; there were 22 members then, including 2 snowbirds and 11 are still members today. (3) 8 people hiked to Romano pools in Catalina Park – a tough one! (4) Visitors Mary Ann Morris, Jean Smith, and Sue Harriman were introduced.

April 7: 42 present. (1) Connie, now in Northwest Hospital, expects to be sent to a rehab clinic. (2) Kristie Trahan, the new superintendent of recreation in Marana, spoke to us about plans for seniors.
April 21: 42 present. (1) Guest Karen Evans was introduced. The Bricks and the Baums were welcomed back. (2) Betty was back and looking good after her operation. (3) 11 went to the MHS play. (4) 25 went last Thursday to Christopher Columbus Park where food and weather were great but model motor boat noises were a distraction. (5) 13 went to Frank Kell’s concert. (6) The hiking group went to the Chiracahua Mountains.

April 28: (1) Colette reported that 19 went to the El Corral dinner. (2) 5 went hiking in the Catalinas.

May 5: 29 present. (1) Bella and LaRita were introduced. (2) 8 went on last week’s hike.

May 12: 44 present. (1) Millie and Gordon (?) were introduced. (2) Bella Romain joined SCRCR. (3) Al Taylor is having stomach problems. (4) 5 went to movies and lunch. (5) 23 went to our annual Mothers’ Day picnic.

May 17: 33 present. (1) Char & Vince B (?) were introduced, also Betty L (?). Suzette was welcomed back. (2) Elaine is recuperating slowly. (3)18 went to Bisbee. (4) 24 went to Gaslight. (5) Lew mentioned that former members Wheeler and Charlene Abett donated $1,000,000 to the new library fund.

May 26: 34 present. (1) Bruce & Shirley Merrill and Priscilla & Bob Forest were introduced. (2) Visiting old member Eunice Griffin was welcomed. (3) Lew had cataract surgery (OK!) and Al T was having blood problems. (4) 28 dined at the Taste of Texas. (6) Ed D suggested, Colette moved, Tony seconded a motion to have a pizza party – approved! (7) Lew moved, Sandy seconded a motion to write a check for $250 to book the Elks’ room for Christmas – passed!
June 2: 43 present. (1) Lorita Green was introduced. (2) Gladys moved, Ed D seconded a motion to delay the pizza party – passed!

June 9: 49 present. (1) Bet & Steve Bleich were introduced. ‚ Shirley & Bruce Merrill joined SCRCR. (2) Helen White is recuperating at home. (3) 10 went to Mt. Lemmon picnic. (4) 16 ladies went to high tea at Tohono Chul while 7 male members went to the Titan Missile Site.

June 16: 34 present. (1) Barbara McCutcheon was introduced. (2) 21 went to a good dinner at the Metropolitan Grill. (3) Walt said there was a tentative plan to knock out the walls around the old office to provide more space.

July 1: The following new names appear in the July roster; they were not in minutes received by Lew: Linda Feltz, Lynn Lauro, and Betty Lewandowski. Their exact joining dates are unknown to the writer.

July 7: 25 present. (1) Wanda, daughter Carlene & guest Darlene were welcomed. (2) Mary J is recuperating in Mountain View Care Center. (3) A card was sent to Shirley Merrill who hurt her leg on vacation.

July 14: 33 present. (1) Al T is undergoing chemo treatment for blood disorder. (2) Elaine is slowly recuperating.

July 21: 44 present. (1) Bob Willis has hurt his head. (2) Gladys explained new rules for Continental Ranch annual meeting.

July 28: 31 present. (1) New members Beth and Steve (?) were introduced. (2) Mary J. is now in her daughter’s home. (3) Shane Swanson introduced himself as a candidate for the CRCA board; this was a breach of our non-political bylaws. Walt Ross is also a candidate; he acknowledged the breach and made a few non-political remarks.
August 4: 27 present. (1) New member Larita Green was introduced also Darlene, staying through August.

August 11: 37 present. (1) Mary J, Isabel, and Joan M were welcomed back. (2) Get-well cards were sent to Betty, Connie, Lee, and Helen. (3) Suzette and Al T are still doctoring. (4) A bid for wall removal was $16K; no action taken by the board.

August 18: 48 present. (1) Shirley & Bruce Merrill were welcomed back. (2) Helen White is in Mountain View Care Center.

August 25: 37 present. (1) Helen Cullison is still in ICU. (2) Ruby is doing well after surgery. (3) A thanks letter was read from the American Legion for coffee, etc. (4) 10 went to Ak-Chin Casino.
September 1: 41 present. (1) Helen White is now home. (2) Ruby’s surgery went OK. (3) Connie is back. (4) Janet has viral pneumonia in hospital. (5) 29 went to Roma Café – service not too good!. (6) Carol moved, Vi seconded, a motion passed, to send $300 to the Salvation Army for flood relief.
September 8: 45 present. (1) Janet is in Mountain View rehab. (2) Helen C is now home. (3) Betty is collecting any kind of stuff for New Orleans evacuees.

September 15: 42 present. (1) Visitors Shirley Mead, Alice King and Dennis Foster were welcomed. (2) Thanks were read from Ronald McDonald House. (3) 10 went to the KOLD studios. (4) Carol & Ed Altmann are celebrating their 50th anniversary.

September 22: ?? present. (1) Alice King and Dennis Foster became members. (2) Al T is experiencing blood clots and fighting pneumonia. (3) Betty is fighting an infection. (4) Barbara H was thanked for hosting a KOLD studio trip. (5) 27 went to Firebirds for dinner. (6) A previous motion regarding supplementing the refreshments person was tabled. (7) Moved by Margie, seconded by Ed D, a motion passed to give Betty an unmentionable (!) item at the style show.

September 29: 41 present. (1) New member Shirley Mead was introduced. (2) Lee Ciancio, one of our founders, died on 26 September from heart failure complicated by cancer. A collection of $80 was made and $20 was added by the treasury to present to the American Cancer Society in her memory. No services were held. (3) Al T was at home but is undergoing more tests. (4) Christmas party fees will be $13 for members and $17 for guests. (5) The motion tabled from 9/29 re providing $10 towards refreshments was denied.

October 6: 39 present. (1) Visitors Abby & Lyle Cameron, Simone Simon, Carol Williams, Ruth Means, and Russell Clanagan (BoD member) were introduced. (2) A check for $100 was sent to the American Cancer Society in memory of Lee Ciancio, a founding member in 1994. (3) Mary Mooney had surgery. (4) Members had lunch at Heritage Highlands. (5) CRCA finally said that the wall in the room was going to be removed in November. (6) A fashion show followed.

October 13: 47 present. (1) Abby & Lyle Cameron, Simone Simon, and Ann Collins were welcomed. Peggy Sideman was a guest. (2) Ruby had to see a cardiologist. (3) 30 went to the Gaslight to see Sinbad – a great show! (4) We are still looking into registering as a non-profit organization.

October 27: 41 present. (1) The Pinnacle Peak dinner was attended by 19 members. (2) The walking club resumed activities. (3) Carol volunteered to apply for 1024 not-for-profit organization. Walt moved, Gladys seconded, motion passed, that $150 be submitted with the application.

November 3: No meeting; the room was being enlarged.

November 10: Picnic at Christopher Columbus park.

November 17: Ellen Cullison died on November 15th after a long fight against cancer. She had attended the picnic as late as recent as the 10th. Eldon visited the club today and was consoled by the members. A collection was taken and the club made up the small difference to make it $100 to be presented in Ellen’s memory to her named charity.

December 2: Sixty-Five members had Christmas dinner at the Elk’s Lodge. All had a good time. Everyone got a door prize. Al L’Heureux made a brief movie with his digital camera and presented CD’s later. Suzanne and Al Taylor sang a French Christmas song.

December 8: 44 present. (1) Frank delivered a check to Marana Food Bank and 65 gifts to Marana School district for needy children. (2) John mentioned that they hiked 11 miles in the Tucson mountains. (3) Vi moved, Carol seconded, a motion passed, that money be returned to those who paid but could not attend the Christmas party.

December 22: 28 present. (1) Many members with colds and company missed the potluck party. (2) Forty members went to the SkyRiders café for lunch. (3) Christmas cards were distributed.
Note: Many Thursdays are missed because there was no meeting (on trip days, etc.) or no significant events were recorded and/or forwarded in the minutes of that day. (?) = last name was not in the minutes.
