Minutes of Meeting of May 24, 2012

1.Call to Order: Jim: The meeting opened at 9:30 AM with the Pledge of Allegiance. This was followed by some very interesting trivia and then the jokes!
2. Host/Hostess: Alice and Dennis: A welcome back went out to Adria – good to see her again.
3. Vice-President: Joan: We have 82 SCRCR members. Joan shared a cute “Maxine” story about - ahem- getting older.
4. Secretary: Jeanne: 43 members attended today. SCRCR minutes of May 17 were approved and accepted.
5. Treasurer: Walt: The total in the treasury and petty cash is still $1252.65. No change since last week.
6. Coordinators’ Reports:
  • a. Refreshments: Betty: Today: JoAnn, Walt and Mary Lou S. Next week: Dan, Donna and Linda. Thank you very much.
  • b. Sunshine: Linda D: a.) Thanks to Sandy for handling the Sunshine committee in her absence. b.) A basket of goodies was sent to Bonnie. c.) Joan M. has moved to assisted living at The Inn at The Fountains. Her son will be arranging the sale of her house. Joan is trying to adjust to these new arrangements. Her phone has been hooked up so that she maintains her original phone number.
  • c. Historian: Magda: absent.
  • d. Philanthropy: Betty: No food went to the Food Bank this week. Contact Bo if you have any hazardous waste that you would like disposed of.
  • e. Busybody: JoAnn: No new report.
7. Activities: Joyce G.: Please see the upcoming events in the agenda for details and changes.
  • a) The AGAM lunch today is at The Station. 
  • b.) Kartschner Caverns has been postponed until the Fall when the Big Room will be open. 
  • c.) There is a Jam Session event coming up which has free admission. Details will be posted on the bulletin board as this is not an SCRCR activities event. 
  • d.) Signup sheets are out for Gaslight Theatre performances. So far, only 9 have signed up for the upcoming performance.
8. Group Concerns/Good of the Group):
  • a.) Jim reminded us of the importance of adequate hydration when walking, hiking, etc. and also the care to be taken of our pets (especially dogs) when walking them. 
  • b.) Jim called on Hilde to share personal information about herself and her background as she is also a May birthday celebrant – very interesting. Thank you! 
  • c.) Alice B. volunteered to make a cover for our second memorial plaque. Thank you! 
  • d.) Bonnie thanked the group for the basket and the well wishes re her recovery. 
  • e.) Vi requested prayers for her twin stepdaughters who are undergoing bone marrow donation/transplant on May 29th. 
  • f.) Dennis informed us of a concert at The Fountains (on Rudasill Rd) on Sunday, May 27th by The Rhythm Gang, consisting primarily of big band music. This takes place at 2:30 PM.

Minutes of Meeting of May 17, 2012

Up! Up! and Away!
1. Call to Order: Jim: The meeting opened at 9:30 AM with the Pledge of Allegiance. This was followed by some jokes and stories. Jim asked Bo to share some personal information about himself as he is one the birthday celebrants this month. Bo’s story was VERY interesting!!
2. Host/Hostess: Alice and Dennis: A big welcome back went out to Edna who has returned from vacation.
3. Vice-President: Joan: We have 82 SCRCR members. Joan read a funny poem titled Ah, Arizona, from Tucson Living magazine.
4. Secretary: Jeanne: 38 members attended today. SCRCR minutes of May 10 were approved and accepted.
5. Treasurer: Walt: The total in the treasury and petty cash is now $1252.65. No change since last week.


6. Coordinators’ Reports:
a. Refreshments: Betty: Today: Jan P., Kay P. and Gladys P. Next week: JoAnn, Walt and Mary Lou S. Great job folks! Thank you very much.
b. Sunshine: Linda D: Sandy told us that a.) Joan M. is moving to assisted living at The Fountains. Her room number is 119. Sandy will let us know anything further. She and Don O. both say that Joan is looking very good! Lew reported that Agnes has finally gained a little weight – about 5#. Good news!
c. Historian: Magda: No new report.
d. Philanthropy: Betty. 48 POUNDS OF FOOD WENT TO THE FOOD BANK THIS WEEK. Also, glasses and phones were donated.
e. Busybody: JoAnn: No new report.
7. Activities: Joyce G.: Please see the upcoming events in the agenda for details and changes.
  • a) The Mother’s Day Brunch was attended by 6 people and it was very good. Everyone had a great time.
  •  b.) The AGAM lunch today is at Jerry Bob’s. 
  • c.) For Wyatt Earp Days, please meet at the Community Center @ 9:00AM. 
  • d.) Signup sheets are out for Gaslight Theatre performances. So far, only 7 have signed up for the upcoming performance.
8. Group Concerns/Good of the Group):
  • a.) Jim reminded us of the Gathering of Remembrance today which was mentioned in the previous minutes of May 10th. 
  • b.) Walt encouraged everyone to attend the BOD meeting tonight at 6:30PM. 
  • c.) Magda informed us that we have 2 bobcats roaming the neighborhood and she saw one of them in her backyard. 
  • d.) Edna reported that a streaker was spotted running down Twin Peaks last night around 8:00 PM. 
  • e.) After a lot of laughs re the tie-in of the last two items, Jim closed the meeting with another entertaining story and Sandy pointed out the importance of laughter re our health. Magda thanked everyone for the humor shown in this group.

Minutes of Meeting of May 10, 2012

1. Call to Order: Jim: The meeting opened at 9:30 AM with the Pledge of Allegiance. This was followed by some jokes and stories about mothers. Jim introduced us to his son Steve, from Salt Lake City.
2. Host/Hostess: Alice and Dennis: A big welcome back went out to Bonnie and Bob V.
3. Vice-President: Joan: We have 82 SCRCR members. Joan reported that she visited Joan M. who appears much improved. She then told us a story about the value of time and those near and dear to us.
4. Secretary: Jeanne: 40 members attended today. SCRCR minutes of May 3 were approved and accepted.
5. Treasurer: Walt: The total in the treasury and petty cash is now $1252.65.
6. Coordinators’ Reports:
a. Refreshments: Betty: Today: Joan and Paul B. and birthday cake. Next week: Jan P., Kay P. and Gladys P. Kudos to Joan and Paul for the wonderful goodies today!!
b. Sunshine: Linda D: Sandy told us that
  • a.) Joan M. is doing better. Her son is looking into assisted living arrangements for her. 
  • b.) Bonnie attended the meeting today and she is obviously doing better!
c. Historian: Magda: No new report but she thanked those who brought in tab tops. Magda needs photos from recent events.
d. Philanthropy: Betty: 17# of food and a check for $20.00 went to the Food Bank this week.
e. Busybody: JoAnn: Just a reminder to give JoAnn your cell phone number or the number of the place where you are staying if you are traveling. 
7. Activities: Joyce G.: Please see the upcoming events in the agenda for details and changes.
  • a) The Mothers’ Day Brunch on May 13 will be at the Bisbee Breakfast Club @ 12:00 PM. So far, only 4 are attending so if anyone else plans on brunch there on Mother’s Day, please contact Jeanne L.
  • b.) The AGAM lunch today is at Monkey Business. 
  • c.) Betty has 8 people signed up for the next Gaslight Theatre performance. If you are interested, please sign up on the sheets provided. The Gaslight Theatre Christmas performance will be on Dec. 4 @ 6:00PM. No ticket price as yet. 
  • d.) Wyatt Earp Days in Tombstone will be on May 26, leave at 9:00AM.
8. Group Concerns/Good of the Group):
  • a.) Birthday celebrants who were at the meeting today consisted of Larry L., Magda Q. and Shirley M. They all shared very interesting information about themselves. Those who weren’t at the meeting today will get their turn in the future. 
  • b.) Jim had an announcement about a memorial service at The Unitarian Church on 22nd Street, Thursday, May 17 @ 2:00PM. This is in memory of patients from Odyssey Hospice who have passed away in the past 3 months. This would include Lynn L. and Richard L. 
  • c.) Bonnie V. thanked all those who prayed for her and sent her cards. 
  • d.) Vi announced that she is going to be a “grandmother” again as her daughter’s horse is currently about to give birth! lol!

Minutes of Meeting of May 3, 2012

1. Call to Order: Jim: The meeting opened at 9:30 AM with the Pledge of Allegiance. This was followed by the “5 minute management course” provided by Jim, which was very funny.
2. Host/Hostess: Alice and Dennis: No new members or visitors.
3. Vice-President: Joan: We have 82 SCRCR members. Joan shared with us some examples of why our country might not be okay ”education-wise”. This was humorous and….sad!
4. Secretary: Jeanne: 40 members attended today. SCRCR minutes of April 26 were approved and accepted.
5. Treasurer: Walt: The total in the treasury is now $1287.46.
6. Coordinators’ Reports:
a. Refreshments: Betty: Today: Sandy, Tony and Don O. Next week: Joan and Paul B. and Birthday cake. Thank you! Be sure to sign up for your turn at providing refreshments.
b. Sunshine: Linda D: Sandy covered for Linda today and told us that
  • a.) Joan M. is doing better. Her son is still here and exploring options for Joan. 
  • b.) Sandy took Iris to the grocery store. c.) No further report on Bonnie.
  • c. Historian: Magda: absent.
d. Philanthropy: Betty: 44# of food went to the Food Bank this week as well as 17# of non-grocery items.
e. Busybody: JoAnn: Just a reminder to give JoAnn your cell phone number if you are traveling.
7. Activities: Joyce G.: Please see the upcoming events in the agenda for details and changes. 
  • a) The Ostrich Ranch was enjoyed by those who went to this event. The Farmer’s Market was great and the Activities Committee will plan another outing there but most likely in the fall, when the number of vendors increases. 
  • b.) Betty has signup sheets for the next two performances at the Gaslight Theatre. 
  • c.) Mothers’ Day Brunch on May 13 will be at the Bisbee Breakfast Club @ 12:00 PM.
8. Group Concerns/Good of the Group)
  • a.) Dick J. explained his T-shirt which had a pig’s face on it. This goes to the fact that WWll submarines were referred to as “pig boats” since people disembarked smelling like pigs. Nothing further needs to be said about this…..
  • b.) Joan T. reminded us that there will be a media exchange at the Community Center on Saturday, May 5, which is sponsored by the CRCA Activities Committee. The time is from 9:00AM to 12:00 PM. There will be books, CDs and DVDs. Bring one (or more) and take one (or more) – no money involved. 
  • c.) A thumbs up was given to our SCRCR members who are on the HOA committees: Joan and Sandy (Activities) and Dorothy, Sandy, Carol and Joyce (Finance). 
  • d.) Sue R. had questions re the Christmas Party. This was discussed again and Jim encouraged people to think about it and volunteer to take part in the arrangements for this event. We need to nail down a date, place and contract. 
  • e.) Jim wrapped things up with some very interesting Marana history.
