Minutes of Meeting for November 1, 2018

Call to Order:   Bill E.  led us in the Pledge and then we sang God Bless America.   Bill then turned the meeting over to Barb and Susan.
  1. Hostesses:  Barb L. and Susan D.  Barb and Susan report 50 in attendance today.  We welcomed back Don and Kate Harner, and Adria.  Also, Darlene became a member and brought her husband Steve to join us.  Welcome all!
Bill then turned the meeting over to our Mayor Ed Honea.  Mayor Honea gave a great, informative talk for most of the meeting and answered some very pointed questions.
  1. Vice President:   Debbi S.:  We are at 119 members
  2. Secretary:   Kristi G.:
  3. Treasurer:  Walt R.:    No report, we didn’t get this far because of the length of the meeting.   Please people, remember to put your money in the pot for coffee “and”.  It’s $2.00 for a cup of coffee which includes all refills; $1.00 for sweets. Thanks much.
  4. Coordinators Reports:
Sunshine Mary M.:   No report, no time.
·         Historian:  Magda Q.:   No report.
·         Philanthropy:     No report today.
·         Activities:  See activities listed below.  Note:  When you sign up for an activity, please let whoever oversees that activity know whether you’ll make it.  It’s embarrassing if you tell a place that 30 or 40 folks are coming to a function, so they set up for that, get extra help for that and then only 20 or so show up.    Please remember to RSVP if you are going to attend something and to let the person in charge know if you can’t make it.  Thanks.

  1. Group Concerns/Good of the Group
  • Susan told us all to be on the alert for rattlesnakes.  Her neighbors had 2 in their yard, a 5 footer and a 6 footer….YUCK!  Be careful folks.
  • A reminder of who collects what.  Sandy and Tony Padilla have medical supplies such as wheel chairs, walkers, etc., that they have when needed.  Sandy also collects the box tops for teachers and you will find on tons of packaged products.  Magda collects the pull tabs from cans for Ronald McDonald House.  Dennis collects the empty pill bottles for the PACC for medications for the animals as they are adopted out.  Kristi collects bottle caps of all kinds, clean egg cartons (unless Julie and Wally run out of them), empty toilet paper rolls and paper towel rolls for the Treasures for Teachers.
  • Please get your nominations for the Board Member to Jim Alam and if you have any questions about the duties of the Board Members, just talk to Jim about that.
  • Please get your “Member of the Year” nominations to Jorge Anda .
  • Please get your nominations for charities that you would like to give to in the Marana/Tucson area to John Zimmerman.
  • Dennis Foster put out there that he is collecting your empty pill bottles for the Pima Animal Care facility.  They need them to give out to folks who may adopt or foster dogs/cats who may need medication when they leave their facility.

Call to Order:   Bill E.  led us in the Pledge and then we sang God Bless America.   Bill then turned the meeting over to Barb and Susan.
  1. Hostesses:  Barb L. and Susan D.  Barb and Susan report 42 in attendance today.  We had two new visitors today, Nancy Weiss brought her friend Rick who is going to join us and another “newbie” we hijacked from the library, Darlene who is also going to join.  Welcome ðŸ˜Š    Remember to have Val Roberts take your pictures for the “Who’s Who” booklet.
  2. Vice President:   Debbi S.:  We are at 117 members Since we have so many new people, it would be great if everyone (myself included) would wear their name badges so we can get to know you by name.  It was brought to my attention that so many aren’t wearing their badges so we kind of look at you with that blank stare that’s so prevalent in “older folks” when we know we are supposed to know you, but we can’t think of your name.   Ya’ll know what I mean. ðŸ˜Š
  3. Secretary:   Kristi G.:   Minutes were accepted.
  4. Treasurer:  Walt R.:    Mr. Ross tells us there is $1,850.04 in the bank!   Please people, remember to put yourmoney in the pot for coffee “and”.  It’s $2.00 for a cup of coffee which includes all refills; $1.00 for sweets. Thanks much.
  5. Coordinators Reports:
Sunshine Mary M.:   Alice Rigney is home and would love cards and phone calls.  Kristi called June Snedecker and June is doing wonderfully!  She is walking one mile a day!  Her breathing is much better as well.  We miss you Junie but are happy you are doing so well!   Rich Roberts is having surgery this coming Tuesday and Val keep us posed on this recovery.  Gene is doing better after his foot surgery and will have to be wearing a boot for a while.  John and Linda DiPalma need our prayers.  John says that Linda’s back pain has never been so bad.  Betty and Bo Bolin are OK.
·         Historian:  Magda Q.:   Magda thanked everyone for the pull tabs.
·         Philanthropy:     No report today.
