Minutes of Meeting of Jan. 9, 2014
1. Call to Order: The meeting was opened at 9:30 AM by Jim Alam with the Pledge of Allegiance. Jim officiated at the installment of new officers and Committee members. Our new officers are: President Lou M., V.P. Dorothy B., Secretary Barbara R., and Treasurer Carol A. Committee members are: Barbara L. and Susan D. as Hostesses; Joyce G. on Activities, with assistance from members June, Iles, Doree, Alice K., Cheryl and Carol A.; John Z., Mike T. and Jan on Philanthropy; Magda as Historian; Nancy P. and Sandy P. on Sunshine and JoAnn on Hiking and Busybody. Janet K. congratulated the former slate of officers on jobs well done and wished the best to the new incoming slate of officers. Lou M. took over the gavel and conducted the meeting at this point.
2. Host/Hostess: Barbara L.: Welcome back to members who have been gone for a while and a big welcome to visiting guests Frank and Barbara.
3. Vice-President: Dorothy: no report today.
4. Secretary: Jeanne covered for Barbara R. 60 people were present today.
5. Treasurer: Carol: The total in the treasury is now $419.00. Membership dues are due this month.
6. Coordinators’ Reports:
a. Refreshments: Money for coffee was taken from the donation basket.
b. Sunshine: Sandy P.: Eva is coping well with her radiation treatment but seems weak. Her treatments should be ending soon. Stan S. had his second radiation treatment and was encouraged by a talk he had with Don B. Iles is recovering from a bout of pneumonia. Bo is doing a little better but his prognosis is still uncertain. Betty will be having back surgery on Jan. 23rd. Ed will be having knee surgery on Jan. 21st. Vi and Don are doing okay. Please notify Sandy if you know of anyone who is ill or needs assistance.
c. Historian: Magda: absent.
d. Philanthropy: No report today.
e. Busybody: JoAnn: No report today.
7. Activities: a.) Joyce gave a rundown of upcoming activities and requested input on some of the ideas of the committee. She will present a schedule of activities next week. b.) Rich R. announced that Superbowl will be at the Native New Yorker on Feb. 2nd. Tickets on sale starting today with a limit of 5 per person. Contact Richard for more details. c.) Hiking next week will be to Brown’s Mountain which will be a 4.8 mile hike. d.) The next Gaslight performance will be on Feb. 13th. Please pay Alice B. if you have signed up.
8. Group Concerns/Good of the Group): a.) Lew M. received The Most Valuable Person of the Year award today!!! Congratulations! b.)Val and Richard are ready to take pictures of new members today. They will be gone for a couple of weeks but when they return, they will be ready to complete this project. c.) Gladys requested that members bring in old Christmas cards for donation to St. Jude’s Ranch. The only stipulation is that there be no writing on the back of the picture. d.) Jeanne read a thank you note from Barbara R. e.) SCRCR will meet at Rock N’ Java for about 3 more weeks before the group moves to Lord of Grace Lutheran Church.
