Minutes of Meeting of Apr. 26, 2012

1. Call to Order: Jim (absent): Joan opened the meeting at 9:30 AM with the Pledge of Allegiance.
2. Host/Hostess: Alice and Dennis: Rosemary C. has joined the group again. Welcome! Glad to see Susan D. and Mary J. today too!
3. Vice-President: Joan: We have 83 SCRCR members.
4. Secretary: Jeanne: 38 members attended today. SCRCR minutes of April 26 were approved and accepted.
5. Treasurer: Walt: The total in the treasury is now $1291.94.
6. Coordinators’ Reports:
a. Refreshments: Today: Mary M., Shirley and Lily. Next week: Sandy, Tony and Don O. Thank you!
b. Sunshine: Linda D: Sandy covered for Linda today and told us that
  • a.) Bonnie is improving slowly. The decision was made to wait to send a fruit basket to Bonnie until Edna returns and then she will handle that. 
  • b.) Joan M.’s son will be in town later today. Sandy has been calling her daily and Bo and Betty have visited her as well. She is a little confused. For those who would like to reach her, Joan T. clarified that she is in room 105B.
c. Historian: Magda: absent.
d. Philanthropy: Betty: No food to the Food Bank this week, but she will be going this coming week.
e. Busybody: JoAnn: No calls from any members this week. If you need to reach JoAnn, please call her on her landline phone rather than her cell phone. 
7. Activities: Joyce G.: Please see the upcoming events in the agenda for details and changes.
  • a) Dinner at Bubb’s Grub yesterday was enjoyed by all. 
  • b.) AGAM lunch today is at the New Town Buffet. 
  • c.) A signup sheet is available for the upcoming Gaslight Theatre performance. Betty does not have prices as yet. She has 60 seats reserved, combining her church group and the SCRCR. The performance of The Three Musketeers was greatly enjoyed by all who attended and deemed to be the best one in a long time. d.) So far only 4 people are signed up for the Ostrich Ranch and Joyce suggested that those who are going meet at the Community Center to make arrangements for rides. 
  • e.) The Green Valley Farmer’s Market has changed the hours of operation for the summer to 8:30AM until 12:30 PM. Those interested in going to this event should meet at the Community Center at 8:30 AM rather than at 9:00AM. 
  • f.) Paul B. announced that there will be a farmers’ produce market in the parking lot at Walgreen’s and Rockin’ Java this coming Saturday from 9:00AM to 12:00 PM. They will be selling fresh produce. 
  • g.) Joyce is still working on arrangements for Mother’s Day. 
  • h.) Wyatt Earp Days will be on Saturday, May 26 – see change in Agenda/events.
8. Group Concerns/Good of the Group): 
  • a.) No issues came up specifically for this topic. 
  • b.) Joan requested that those members who have birthdays in April share some personal information about themselves with the group. We heard from Betty, Alice K., Alice B., and Don B. This was informative and very enjoyable. Thank you all. (This writer opted not to advertise your ages, etc.).
  •  c.) Jeanne read a very nice thank you note from Iris J. who hopes to return to the group soon.

Minutes of Meeting of Apr. 19, 2012

1. Call to Order: Jim: The meeting was opened @ 9:30 AM with the Pledge of Allegiance. He then shared some insights into the creation of the U.S. dollar bill. Sure enough- jokes were not left out this week!
2. Host/Hostess: Alice and Dennis: Rosemary C. (a prior member) attended today and Alice welcomed several returning members who have been absent for a bit.
3. Vice-President: Joan: Announced that we have 82 SCRCR members. She then read us a story on our generation and our history of recycling and conservation. This story prompted a comment from Dick J. advising us all of the lead content in the recyclable bags which are being used/sold at the grocery stores!
4. Secretary: Jeanne: 43 members attended today. SCRCR minutes of the 12th of April were approved and accepted.
5. Treasurer: Walt (absent):
6. Coordinators’ Reports:
a. Refreshments: Today: Lou/Agnes and Joan M. Next week: Mary M., Shirley and Lily. Thank you!
b. Sunshine: Linda D: Sandy covered for Linda today and told us that
  • a.) Bonnie is home as of yesterday. 
  • b.) Mary T. lost a daughter due to sudden illness. 
  • c.) Recipients of get well cards and baskets thanked the members. 
c. Historian: Magda: Commented on the death of Dick Clark. She also told the group of her upcoming planned trip to Washington DC to visit with her son and visit Arlington Cemetery. Dick J. pointed out that as of Apr. 1, it is the 100th birthday of the submarine service!!
d. Philanthropy: Betty: No food to the Food Bank this week. Peanut butter is still in great demand.
e. Busybody: JoAnn (absent): Walt and JoAnn out of town. JoAnn can still be reached via her cell phone and that number is 520-405-3268 . 
7. Activities: Joyce G.: Please see the upcoming events in the agenda for details and changes. 
a) Today’s outing to the Botanical Gardens is canceled for lack of interest (?). 
b.) AGAM lunch today will be at Boston’s. 
c.) Betty is already making arrangements for the Gaslight Theatre Christmas performance.
d.) Blues Brothers and the SASO concert were great hits and Joyce states that we will schedule another SASO outing. 
e.) No final plans as yet for the Mother’s Day brunch.
8. Group Concerns/Good of the Group): 
a.) Gladys gave us information on the handling of Lynn L.’s estate. Lynn’s attorney reports that a foundation will be started to assist in providing scholarships for veterans through the U. of A. 
b.) Betty encouraged members to sign up for the dates they prefer to provide refreshments for the meetings – everyone gets two turns this year! 
c.) Betty also gave us a web site address to help provide meals for the needy through Kraft Foods: jingit.com. 
d.) Dick J. told us about the veterans’ parade honoring the Afghan and Iraqi vets and how stirring the reception/welcome was. Everyone received a free American flag. 
e.) Jim wrapped things up with a story about an acquaintance of his who went to Nogales for dental care and on his return to the U.S. discovered that he did not have his passport with him. This caused quite a bit of inconvenience for him before he was allowed back into the U.S.A.

Minutes of Meeting of Apr. 12, 2012

Call to Order: Jim: The meeting was opened @ 9:30 AM with the Pledge of Allegiance. He then shared some jokes with the groups that were actually funny. Jim handed out updates to our SCRCR “Who’s Who“Picture book from Rich & Val.

2. Host/Hostess: Alice and Dennis: Alice noted that Paul & Joan B. and Mary J. were present.

3. Vice-President: Joan: Announced that we have 82 SCRCR members and encouraged us to spread the word about our group. Joan gave the group a “Quiz” that most flunked but it was fun anyway. She also discussed the huge Farmer’s Market in Green Valley located off the Esperanza Blvd exit on I -19 with the many vendors, arts & crafts, not to mention – produce, every Wednesday from 9:00 am until 2:00pm.

4. Secretary: Jeanne: absent. Larry covered for her. 39 members attended today. SCRCR minutes of the 5th of April were approved and accepted.
5. Treasurer: Walt (absent): However, Jim reported that SCRCR has a total of $1351.97 with $19.17 in cash.

6. Coordinators’ Reports:
a. Refreshments: Today: Tressie S. Next week Lou/Agnes and Joan M. Thank you!
b. Sunshine: Linda D (absent): Sandy covered for Linda today and told us that a.) Bonnie is doing much better and is hungry. b.) Jorge has a bad case of bronchitis and was absent for the meeting but still came over to unlock the building and set up chairs (our hero) c.) John D. is doing well. d.) Iris J. is home and would welcome visitors. e.) Jim also shared a Thank You note from Stacy, Richard L’s daughter, which was very touching.
c. Historian: Magda: No things of historical importance to report but she talked about a name list used for thanking our SCRCR group for our donations to the Food Bank.
d. Philanthropy: Betty: Reported that 40# of food and $20 Cash went to the Food Bank and she mailed out a bunch of coupons. Betty provided the usual admonition concerning all the things you may have no use for (eye glasses, phones and just about anything else) that she will take and find a home for it. Betty also reminded us the Desert Son Church Faith in Action program that Bo works with, will provide assistance to those in need at no charge.
e. Busybody: JoAnn (absent): Walt and JoAnn out of town. JoAnn can still be reached via her cell phone and that number is 520-xxx .

7. Activities: Joyce G.: Please see the upcoming events in the agenda for details and changes. a) Three Musketeers will take place at the Gaslight Theatre on Tues. Apr. 24 and tickets are now $17.40 each.
b.) Joyce requests that you check the signup sheets for upcoming events and that in the future she will be calling you to confirm your planned attendance at functions and to see if you need a ride.
c.) Dennis reminded us about the Southern Arizona Symphony Orchestra performance @ 3:00 PM on Apr. 15th.
d.) The picnic on Sat. Apr. 28 at Picacho Peak will not be potluck. Bring your own food and if you so desire, a dish to pass.
e.) Joyce is still looking for a place for Mother’s Day Lunch- so far the one’s found are too pricey ($50-$65/person).

8. Group Concerns/Good of the Group): Jim talked about how volunteering at the North West Medical Center benefits the patients and the number of different volunteer jobs available at the hospital.

9. Adjournment: Jim: In preparation for closing the meeting Jim provided the group with some positive messages for living life and self-improvement. The meeting adjourned at 10:12 AM.

Minutes of Meeting of Apr. 5, 2012

1. Call to Order: Jim: The meeting was opened @ 9:30 AM with the Pledge of Allegiance. He then shared some good jokes with the group. Lou M. followed this up with a very funny story!
2. Host/Hostess: Alice (absent) and Dennis: No new visitors but Dennis welcomed the return of members who haven’t been present for awhile.
3. Vice-President: Joan: We now have 81 members. Joan shared a story about “keeping the valuable people and things in life”.
4. Secretary: Jeanne: 39 members attended today. Minutes of Mar. 29 were approved and accepted.
5. Treasurer: Walt: The treasury totals $1351.97.
6. Coordinators’ Reports:
a. Refreshments: Today: Al, Suzanne. Next week: Tressie S. and Adria L. Thank you! b. Sunshine: Linda D: absent. Sandy covered for Linda today and told us that a.) Alice K. is suffering from pneumonia and still feeling pretty washed out.
b.) Bonnie is in rehab at La Canada and having quite a few bad days. She still requests no visitors. Her address is 7970 N. La Canada Dr., Tucson 85704. Phone # is 797-1191.
c.) Vi and Don are down with a flu bug.
d.) John D. is improving.
e.) Linda A. will contact Iris to see how she is doing.
f.) Jeanne read a very touching thank you note from Barbara L.
c. Historian: Magda: A thank you went out for the tab tops for McDonald House. Magda shared an interesting story about their crossing the border to the American side – insightful and funny as only Magda can tell a story!
d. Philanthropy: Betty: 68# of food to the Food Bank. They are very appreciative. The Lion’s Club is meeting at Rockin’ Java at 7 AM every other Tuesday and eyeglasses may be given to them.
e. Busybody: JoAnn: Walt and JoAnn will be gone for the next two Thursdays. JoAnn can still be reached via her cell phone and that number is 520-xx-xx
7. Activities: Joyce G.: Please see the upcoming events in the agenda for details and changes. a.) Queen Creek Olive Mill was a success.
b.) Monday, Apr. 9th will be DeGrazia Art Gallery followed by lunch at Vito and Schlomo’s.
c.) Betty reported on the Blues Brothers event Monday, Apr. 9. If you are signed up, please pay her at the door at the latest. Tickets are $18.50 each.
c1}The Three Musketeers will take place at the Gaslight Theatre on Tues. Apr. 24 and tickets are $14.65 each.
d.) Joyce requests that you check the signup sheets for upcoming events so that they may be updated.
e.) The picnic on Sat. Apr. 28 at Picacho Peak will not be potluck. Bring your own food and if you so desire, a dish to pass.
f.) Events will only cover 4 week periods in the agenda section since so many changes have been necessitated.
8. Group Concerns: a.) Jim asked that members bring their “Who’s Who Book” next week so inserts/updates can be distributed.
B.) Bo let us know that Desert Son Church will be having the Faith in Action program and anyone needing help either inside or outside of their house can call to get assistance.
c.) Lew requests pictures from Richard. L.’s memorial service.
d.) Jeanne again mentioned the volunteer signup sheet for the Easter Egg Hunt. Jim suggested that those who are interested contact Jocelyn at HOA management.
