Minutes of Meeting of May 22, 2014

Minutes of Meeting of May 22, 2014  

1. Call to Order:   Lou opened the meeting at 9:30am with the Pledge of Allegiance.
2. Host/Hostess:   Barbara L. and Susan D.: A new member, Richard B. was welcomed to the group and we saw Ed, Elaine, Vi and Don back again!
3. Vice-President:  Dorothy: 98 members.

4. Secretary:  Jeanne is covering for Barbara until her return. Minutes of last week were approved and accepted.

5.  Treasurer:  Carol: The total in the treasury is now $1296.00.

6. Coordinators’ Reports:
a. Refreshments: Money for coffee was taken from the donation basket.  Coffee and pastries are 1.00 each.
b. Sunshine:  Sandy P.:
1.) Edna had an outpatient procedure for the back pain she experiences and she cannot drive for 2 weeks nor can she lift or bend for 6 weeks. Time will tell how successful this will be so let’s keep her in our thoughts and prayers.
2.) Don B. had some withdrawal reaction due to coming off his medication too quickly but     otherwise is doing well.
3.) Stan will see his doctor tomorrow to decide on a regime for Chemo maintenance.
4.) Vi reported that Don is under hospice care and the “hovering” of the hospice staff is    “driving them nuts!”                                  
5.) Jane B reminded us that a representative from the Alzheimer’s Assn will be    presenting information next week.                                           
c. Historian:  Magda: Thanked members for pictures of birthdays. She reports that Val and Rich are okay in spite of the wildfires in their area.
d. Philanthropy: Mike T.: delivered 23# of food and a check for $20.00 to the Food Bank!
e. Busybody: JoAnn: Re-cap of busybody position for new members.
7. Activities:
a.) A change has been made in the Father’s Day plans – brunch will be at Tohono Chul and larger portions will be given to the “dads” at no extra cost. If this changes your desire or ability to attend, please note change on signup sheet.
B.) Plans are ongoing for the 20th anniversary celebration of SCRCR.
8. Group Concerns/Good of the Group): Sandy finished things off with a great “Thought of the Day”!

Minutes of Meeting of May 15, 2014

Minutes of Meeting of May 15, 2014
1.       Call to Order:  The meeting was opened at 9:30 AM by Lou M. with the Pledge of Allegiance. 
2.       Host/Hostess:  Barbara L. & Susan D. welcomed Janet K., Vi and Don V.  George and Julie S. brought friend Richard to check out the fun members have with SCRCR.    
3.       Vice-President:  Dorothy B. confirmed our membership total is 97.   A new May 2014 Roster  was sent out this morning. 
4.       Secretary:  Barbara R. The minutes of May 8, 2014 were approved.  Attendance was 47.
5.       Treasurer:   Carol A.  The total in the Treasury is $1,355.00.  The Coffee fund  $45.00  
6.       Coordinators’ Reports:
                a.    Refreshments:  Coffee and tea are $1.00 per cup.  Pastries are $1.00 each.
b.      Sunshine:  Stan S. is receiving a quart of blood this morning in preparation for his treatment tomorrow.  Love to all from him and Suzette.  Mike T. received a shot for a protruding disc in the middle of his back.  Don B entered the hospital following a visit to the ER.  It was found he needed a pacemaker.  He is reported doing well.  Please notify Sandy if you know of anyone who is ill or needs assistance.

d.      Philanthropy:  Mike  Absent
e.      Busybody:  Don’t forget to update emergency info with JoAnn. 

 f.    Activities:   Joyce has asked that anyone who cannot attend an activity they signed up for please, call the coordinator and let them know you can’t make it.  For Joyce’s list of activities thru August see agenda page. 
     
7.     Group Concerns/Good of the Group:
a.) Jan P. Announced that the Recycle Center at 21st and Clark is accepting donations.  They are open 9-6 M-F, and 10 -2 , Sat.  b.) Dennis F. reported full houses for the last Southern AZ Symphony Orchestra Program.  Jim Click is sponsoring a raffle benefitting the Orchestra.  Tickets are available now at $25.00.  The raffle will take place the end of October. c.)  Janet announced that the Sons of Orpheus program made $800.00 and they are planning another event.   d.) Gary Gufpafsen, a representative from The Alzheimer’s Association, will present information about this formidable disease, May 29th after the meeting.

Minutes of Meeting of May 8, 2014
1.       Call to Order:  The meeting was opened at 9:30 AM by Lou M. with the Pledge of Allegiance. 
2.       Host/Hostess:  Barbara  L &  Susan D  Welcomed back Don and Hilde B., Joan T., Nina
L., Dana D, Pete M.  Barbara L. is back from a wonderful trip to Pennsylvania. They love her there too.  
3.       Vice-President:  Dorothy B. reported membership stands at 97.  
4.       Secretary:  Barbara R. The minutes of May 1, 2014 were approved.  Attendance was 50.
5.       Treasurer:   Carol A.  The total in the treasury is $1,355.00.  Coffee fund $45.00  
6.       Coordinators’ Reports:
a.       Refreshments:  Coffee and tea are $1.00 per cup.  Pastries are $1.00 each.
b.       Sunshine:  Stan S. MRI last week showed slight improvement.  Treatment will continue.  Love to all from him and Suzette.   Please notify Sandy if you know of anyone who is ill or needs assistance.
c.        Historian:  Magda Q. absent
d.       Philanthropy:  Mike Titone reported delivering 28 pounds of food to the Marana Food Bank along with $10.00 cash.
e.        Busybody:  Don’t forget to update emergency info with JoAnn.   Hiking season is over until the Fall.

7.     Group Concerns/Good of the Group:
a.) Lew M. will be having a downsizing sale and keepsake distribution this Sat., May 10th from 1pm.   b.) Dennis F. announced that the last Southern Arizona Symphony Orchestra Concert of the season will be preformed at St. Andrew’s Presbyterian Church, Sunday, May 11 at 3pm.  The program is, Shostakovich: Festive Overture; Rodrigo: Concierto de Aranjuez (Roberto Capocchi, guitar); and Beethoven: Symphony No. 9 (with soloists and chorus). Another performance will take place Monday, May 12 at 7:30pm, at PCC, Proscenium Theater.  c.)  Edna noted that the Continental Ranch Association Board has sent out an opinion survey regarding keeping the Windmill Pool open during the winter.  The Board contends that only 1% of residents use the open pool during winter, suggesting the dollars to keep it open, do not serve the community as a whole. Members questions and suggestions followed. d.)  Jim A. spoke of being a hospital volunteer and distributed Northwest Med. Ctr. Volunteer Applications. e.) Gary Gufpafsen, a representative from The Alzheimer’s Association, will present information about this formidable disease May 29th after  meeting.

Minutes of Meeting of May 1, 2014


Minutes of Meeting of May 1, 2014

1.       Call to Order:  The meeting was opened at 9:30 AM by Lou M. with the Pledge of Allegiance. 

2.       Host/Hostess:  Susan D.  We were so happy to see Lew M. at our meeting this morning.  He thanked everyone for the prayers and cards sent.   

3.       Vice-President:  Dorothy B. reported membership stands at 96.  

4.       Secretary:  Barbara R. The minutes of April, 17, 2014 were approved.  Attendance was 59.

5.       Treasurer:   Carol A.  The total in the treasury is $1,421.00.  

6.       Coordinators’ Reports:

a.       Refreshments:  Coffee and tea are $1.00 per cup.  Pastries are $1.00 each.

b.       Sunshine:  Stan S. is having some rough days. Had a couple blood transfusions.  A MRI last Tuesday may hold some answers. Love to all from him and Suzette.         Don B, is hoping current treatment will be successful.  Last radiation treatment is on Friday. Don and Hilde say hello and thanks for the cards. Betty B. Slowly making headway with recovery.  Bo B., Counseling and medication adjustment are helping.   Please notify Sandy if you know of anyone who is ill or needs assistance.

c.        Historian:  Magda Q. absent

d.       Philanthropy:  John Z . is back in Wisconsin until the fall.  Taking over  is Mike Titone

e.        Busybody:  Don’t forget to update emergency info with JoAnn.   Hiking season is over until the Fall.

f.         Activities:   Joyce asked that anyone who cannot attend an activity they signed up for please, please, call the coordinator and let them know you can’t make it.   Joyce gave list of activities thru August. See agenda page. 

     

7.       Group Concerns/Good of the Group:

 a.)  A collection for a memorial donation to the American Heart Association in Agnes Mac Donalds’ name brought $174.00 from members present.  A motion was made, seconded and passed to add an additional $26.00 from the treasury to bring the donation total to $200.00. b.) Birthday celebrants this month will be Bo B., Don B., Rosemarie F., Larry L., Shirley M., Magda Q., Barbara R., Iles W.  c.)  Barbara R. announced she would be leaving May 31st to sell house in Caifornia and prep to move permanently to AZ.  Jeannie L. will cover Secretarial duties for her.  Perhaps Lew M. may want to resume the post?  d.)  Gary Gufpafsen, a representative from The Alzheimer’s Association, will present information about this formidable disease on the 29th of May.
