Minutes of Meeting of Mar. 29, 2012

1. Call to Order: Jim: The meeting was opened @ 9:30 AM with the Pledge of Allegiance. He then shared some good jokes with the group.
2. Host/Hostess: Alice (absent) and Dennis: No new visitors but Dennis welcomed the return of members who haven’t been present for awhile.
3. Vice-President: Joan: We now have 81 members.
4. Secretary: Jeanne: 40 members attended today. Minutes of Mar. 22 were approved and accepted.
5. Treasurer: Walt: The treasury totals $1477.14.
6. Coordinators’ Reports:
a. Refreshments: Today: Jeanne, Larry and Jorge. Next week: Al, Suzanne and Adria L.
b. Sunshine: Linda D: absent. Sandy covered for Linda today and told us that Alice K. is suffering from pneumonia. Bonnie is in rehab at La Canada and improving somewhat but requests no visitors. Vi shared that Bonnie has lost a lot of weight. John D. doesn’t think he is improving but Linda says he is! Mary Jensen is back at assisted living @ Desert Sun. e. Busybody: JoAnn: No new report.
7. Activities: Joyce G.: Please see the upcoming events in the agenda for details and changes. a.) Queen Creek Olive Mill on Tuesday. For those needing rides, please be at the Community Center prior to the departure time of 9:30 AM.
b.) Monday, Apr. 9th will be DeGrazia Art Gallery followed by lunch at Vito and Schlomo’s.
c.) Events will only cover 4 week periods in the agenda section since so many changes have been necessitated.
8. Group Concerns: a.) Joan M. needs a ride to Keno Hospital tomorrow for a 10:15 AM arrival. Any assistance in this matter is greatly appreciated.
b.) The Gaslight Theatre performance date will be changed and Betty will provide that information next week.
c.) Jorge reported on the hike which seems to have been pretty rough due to the first ¼ mile of steeper elevation and then the heat issue. JoAnn reported that there will be no further hikes until Fall.
d.) Richard R. wrapped things up with a funny story.
e.) Memorial for Richard Lebowitz to follow the meeting @ 11:00 AM with a brunch after that.

Minutes of Meeting of Mar. 22, 2012

1. Call to Order: Jim: The meeting was opened @ 9:30 AM with the Pledge of Allegiance. Jokes and some more Arizona trivia followed. Jim reminded everyone that minutes are in the basket by the signup sheets.
2. Host/Hostess: Alice and Dennis: Welcomes went out to members of Joan T.’s family who attended the meeting this morning .
3. Vice-President: Joan: We now have 80 members with 2 more possible. Joan asked us to encourage new residents to check out the SCRCR.
4. Secretary: Jeanne: 39 members attended today. Minutes of Mar. 15th were approved and accepted.
5. Treasurer: Walt: absent. JoAnn presented the Treasurer’s report. We have a total of $1527.72.
6. Coordinators’ Reports:
a. Refreshments: Today: Val, Richard and Joan T. Next week unknown as yet since Betty is absent.
b. Sunshine: Linda D: absent. Sandy covered for Linda today and told us that today is a birthday for Tony and Carol! Bonnie had a tough weekend and will be having another stent put in. John D. is getting treatments to stimulate the flow of blood to his heart. Edna told us that Shirley’s brother is dying and she is with him in New York. Susan reported on the condition of her son who has a long recovery ahead of him. She and her husband are very tired as a result of caring for the grandchildren and the emotional stress of seeing their son in this condition.
c. Historian: Magda: absent.
d. Philanthropy: Betty: absent.
e. Busybody: JoAnn: No new report. LaNeta and Gordon made it safely to So. Dakota and will be there for the summer.
7. Activities: Joyce G.: Please see the upcoming events in the agenda for details.
a.) AGAM lunch is at the Cattleman’s Café.
b.) For those going to the Queen Creek Olive Mill on Apr. 3rd, be sure that Joyce has your luncheon choice by this week. They need 5 days notice!
c.)There are 7 people signed up for the Gaslight Theatre and this is not sufficient to get the group discount. The decision was made to combine our group with Betty’s church group so the date for that performance will be announced – it is later in April.
d.) Jeanne announced that the HOA management gave us a signup sheet requesting volunteers for the Easter Egg Hunt. The sheet will be out again next week for signups.
e.) Last week the hikers went to Sabino Canyon. This week they will venture to Yetman Trail which starts at Gate’s Pass. It will be approximately 5 miles and is easy to moderate in difficulty. All total, the hikers have covered 100 miles since starting in October!
8. Group Concerns: a.) Jim had the booklet Landscape Plants of the Arizona Desert which he distributed.
b.) Edna gave us information on the memorial service for Richard L. which will take place next Thursday @ 11:00 AM. Please bring a potluck dish to supplement whatever will be provided by the family. Vi will take care of the program and Jim requests assistance in setting up after the SCRCR meeting. JoAnn will be taking care of the memorial plaque later today. We will have light refreshment before the meeting and then the potluck after the service.
c.) Alice B. commented on a question which her son recently asked her re the price of gasoline here. One month ago, in Denver, gas was $2.99. This month it is $3.79. This sparked a discussion on the outrageous price of gas across the country.
d.) Val announced that pictures will be taken for the Who’s Who Book after the meeting.

Minutes of Meeting of Mar. 15, 2012

1. Call to Order: Jim: The meeting was opened @ 9:30 AM with the Pledge of Allegiance. Jokes and some Arizona trivia followed.
2. Host/Hostess: Alice and Dennis: No new guests or potential members attended today. Dorothy G. was called upon to share some person information as she is another of our March birthday members.
3. Vice-President: Joan: We now have 82 members. Joan followed her report up with a cute joke!
4. Secretary: Jeanne: 37 members attended today. Minutes of Mar.8th were approved and accepted. Dick J. pointed out that Jeanne received at least 3 kudos last week for keeping members appraised of new developments and hadn’t entered that in last week’s minutes. So, it’s in here now!
5. Treasurer: Walt: absent – no report.
6. Coordinators’ Reports:
a. Refreshments: Today: St. Patrick’s Day potluck. Next week: Val, Richard and ?
b. Sunshine: Linda D: absent. Jeanne reported on the passing of Richard L. and the fact that Barbara requests NO flowers be sent. Arrangements are still TBD but at some point Barbara would like a memorial service at the Community Center. Members have offered their assistance with this. Jim reported that he saw Bonnie and she is weak; on oxygen and has a feeding tube. She is still in ICU. Linda A. will call this afternoon to check on Iris.
c. Historian: Magda: absent.
d. Philanthropy: Betty: 44# of food went to the Food Bank this past week along with a check for $20.00. Dick J. and Lew commended Betty on the great job she is doing and Lew M. suggested that she receive a stipend for gasoline. This was discussed and a motion passed to award her $100.00 at this time. There will be further discussion at a future date re frequency of the stipend.
e. Busybody: JoAnn: absent.
7. Activities: Joyce G.: Please see the upcoming events in the agenda for details.
a.) Thunder Canyon Brewery for St. Patrick ’s Day on Saturday @ 4:45 PM. or 4:00PM @ Comm. Ctr. if you need a ride.
b.) Next Thursday the AGAM lunch will be at the Cattleman’s Café. Joyce will check to see if there will be a cattle auction and in that event, those wanting to attend should be there by 11:00AM.
c.) Joyce needs to know your choice of lunch if you are attending the Queen Creek Olive Mill on Apr. 3rd.
d.) Betty has only 5 people signed up for the next Gaslight Theatre performance. If she doesn’t get 20, the cost will be higher. She has seats available with her church group on Apr. 24th if anyone would prefer that. The cost would be $14.65 per person. Contact her if you are interested in the Blues Bothers performance –tickets are $18.50 each.
e.) Please check the events section of the agenda for information for carpool times. If you need rides, call Joyce or be at the Community Center at the appointed time.
f.) Dick J. will send out information on the Veteran’s Parade on Mar. 31st, in downtown Tucson. g.)Jim announced that the movies in the park have started, beginning with The Smurfs.
8. Group Concerns: a.) Jim has a booklet of information on Landscape Plants of the Arizona Desert which is available for free on -line by going to Google and entering the booklet name.
b.) Jorge reported on the hike of last week. It was 5 ½ miles long; no wildlife was spotted and there was no good place to eat lunch. 2 teenagers accompanied the seniors and others on that hike. Next week’s hike will be at Sabino Canyon.
c.) Joan M. wanted to know who to contact re getting a smaller trash can since she has trouble handling the large one. Answer – Waste Management!

Minutes of Meeting of Mar. 8, 2012

1. Call to Order: Jim: The meeting was opened @ 9:30 AM with the Pledge of Allegiance. Jokes followed. Our birthday members of the month shared personal information about themselves, thereby allowing us to learn more about each other! Thank you all!
2. Host/Hostess: Alice and Dennis: No new guests or potential members attended today. A welcome back was issued to Lou M.
3. Vice-President: Joan: We now have 86 members, and most are paid up re their dues. Those that haven’t paid have been ill.
4. Secretary: Jeanne: 45 members attended today. Minutes of Feb. 16th meeting were approved and accepted.
5. Treasurer: Walt: The total in the treasury is currently at $1492.67.
6. Coordinators’ Reports: a. Refreshments: Today: Dick, Sue and the birthday cake. Next week will be the St. Patrick’s pot luck!
b. Sunshine: Linda D: Mary J will be moving to Desert Treasure and Linda D has the information for those who need it. Richard L. is not improving. Iris J. is at Life Care in room 133. She is getting physical therapy and trying to get off her oxygen. Bonnie is still in ICU and on a respirator – no visitors as yet. Susan’s son is in for a long recovery. Joan M. thanked everyone for the basket and cards – she did not have a heart attack and she is improving.
c. Historian: Magda: no report. She found Lynn’s obituary for the memory book. Val would like to get pictures of those who are not in the Who’s Who book, after this meeting.
d. Philanthropy: Betty: 104# of food went to the Food Bank this past week. Please bring peanut butter for the food bank next week. The Food Bank is sponsoring a dinner dance at Heritage Island@ Dove Mtn. It is $50.00 per couple and takes place on Apr. 14th - music, good food and auctions, etc.
e. Busybody: JoAnn: Requests dates that our snowbirds will be gone.
7. Activities: Joyce G.: Please see the upcoming events in the agenda for details.
a.) The Wagon Ride event went well – 14 attended. Jorge got Kudos for switching to a different seat for this meeting! There is a signup sheet for those interested in the horse racing on Mar. 18th.
b.The next Gaslight Theatre performance has 2 signup sheets – one for the performance and one for dinner. Betty announced the Apr. 9th showing of The Blues Brothers at Gaslight Theatre. Please contact her if you are interested. Joyce would like those who need rides for events to contact her.
8. Group Concerns: a.) Jim informed us of the Marana High School play taking place from Mar. 14-16. Tickets are $8.00 each and may be purchased at the door. Contact Jim for more information.
b.) Gladys has programs from Lynn’s memorial service for those who didn’t get one.
c.) Janet K. suggested that each member write a short biography for the Who’s Who book.
d.) JoAnn has pictures of spreading Lynn’s ashes at Sanctuary Cove.
e.) The hikers have had three hikes since our last meeting and all went well. Next week the hike will be at a new trail @ Saguaro East – about 5.8 miles.
f.)Barbara H. asked for names of members who might be interested in joining a book club – contact her if interested.
