Minutes of Meeting of Feb. 16, 2012

1. Call to Order: Jim: The meeting was opened @ 9:30 AM with the Pledge of Allegiance. Jokes followed.
2. Host/Hostess: Alice and Dennis: No new guests or potential members attended today.
3. Vice-President: Joan: We now have 72 paid members and 14 who have not paid as yet. By this month’s end, it will be determined whether any of these unpaid members intend to stay with the group.
4. Secretary: Jeanne: 51 members attended today. Last week’s minutes were approved and accepted.
5. Treasurer: Walt: The total in the treasury is currently at $1587.38. Member dues need to be paid.
6. Coordinators’ Reports:
a. Refreshments: Today: Dennis, Alice and Joyce. Next week: Ed, Colette and Rosemary F.
b. Sunshine: Linda D:
1.)Richard L. is at Odyssey Hospice for the time being. Arrangements will need to be made for further care in an adult care facility.
2.)Lily O. is okay but has been very busy. Mary J. had a reaction to her medication and was given steroids which resulted in some mental confusion for her. She is currently at La Rosa for some rehab.
3.)Gladys has Lynn’s remains and it was suggested that we have a memorial service for her next week at the Community Center in lieu of a meeting. Her ashes will be dispersed afterward. Extra finger food snacks would be appreciated for this occasion. Magda suggested that we refer to it as a “Celebration of Life”. Great idea! Those with stories, memories, etc. about Lynn are encouraged to share with the group.
c. Historian: Magda: no report. She shared her feelings about the situation involving Louis Marchetti and offered some suggestions to prevent this from happening again. Jeanne mentioned that it is difficult to have just one person keeping track of what is going on, medically, with all of our members. Sandy P. volunteered to help Linda D. with the Sunshine committee.
d. Philanthropy: Betty: No food went to the Food Bank this past week. Please bring peanut butter for the food bank next week. Remember donations!
e. Busybody: JoAnn: No new report.
7. Activities: Joyce G.: Please see the upcoming events in the agenda for details.
a.) The Wagon Ride event was canceled yesterday but it has been rescheduled for Feb. 27th, instead of the Biosphere event and that will be scheduled for a later date.
b.) Cirque de la Symphonie will be at the Music Hall on Mar. 24 and 25. Tickets are going fast. A signup sheet is available for those interested, or call Joyce by Friday afternoon. If anyone would like to make arrangements on their own, go to tucson symphony.org for more information.
c.) Joyce gave us a rundown of other community activities and these will be placed on the bulletin board.
d.) AGAM lunch today is at the Bisbee Breakfast Club on Ina and Old Father.
e.) Magda reminded us of the Accenture Golf tournament this week.
f.) JoAnn said that the hike yesterday was about 6 miles long and the weather was beautiful. Next week the hike will be at Madera Creek Trail and a stop at the gift shop. Dress warmly and in layers.
8. Group Concerns:
a.) Jim announced that Jocelyn (from the HOA management team) is in need of furniture for her new house, so if anyone has furniture, etc. that she might be able to use, please contact her at the office.
b.) Jim had one more golf joke to share!
c.)Alice K. said that in order to help new members feel more comfortable integrating into the group, she and Dennis will offer a gathering on Mar. 2. 2012 @ 4 PM for the new members. It is recommended that we do this periodically for the new members! Good idea!

Wednesdays: TOPS (take-off-pounds-sensibly) group meets weekly at the center at 10:00 AM. Thursdays: Regular SCRCR meeting at 9:00 AM in the center, unless preempted below. Thurs. Feb 23: SCRCR meeting canceled. Memorial Service for Lynn Lauro will take place at the regular meeting time.
Wed., Feb. 27: Wagon Ride/Steak Dinner @ 16721 E. Old Spanish Trail. Vail, AZ. Meet @3:30 PM at the Community Center for Car Pool. Cost is $20.00 per person. There will be a $5.00 charge per car for parking..
Thurs.,Mar.1: Senior Day at Reid Park Zoo. Meet at Community Center @ 9:00AM. As this is a Thursday, the SCRCR meeting will be canceled. Each person is on their own for lunch.

Minutes of Meeting of Feb. 9, 2012

1. Call to Order: Jim: The meeting was opened @ 9:30 AM with the Pledge of Allegiance. Jokes followed. Cloice S. from Sunflower gave us an invitation to their Palm Springs Trip Mar.22- Mar.25, 2012. Cost is $805.00 per couple and $650 for single. Deadline for signing up is Feb. 15th. For more information she can be contacted at 520-906-9720.
2. Host/Hostess: Alice and Dennis: Yvonne C. and Julia B. attended today and shared some personal information. They may join the SCRCR!
3. Vice-President: Joan: We now have 88 members. Joan shared a cute story with the group.
4. Secretary: Jeanne: 46 members attended today. Last week’s minutes were approved and accepted.
5. Treasurer: Walt: The total in the treasury is currently at $1468.18. Member dues need to be paid.
6. Coordinators’ Reports:
a. Refreshments: Today: Jorge, Arnie and Birthday cake. Next week: Dennis, Alice and Joyce.
b. Sunshine: Linda D: Richard L. is back at NW Medical Center and apparently he will be transferred to Odyssey Hospice for the time being. No further details as yet.
c. Historian: Magda: no report. She shared with new members her feelings about the closeness of this group.
d. Philanthropy: Betty: 24# of food went to the Food Bank this past week. Remember donations! Dick J. announced that the food bank needs peanut butter. Linda A. reminded us to save water bottle caps as she is collecting them.
e. Busybody: JoAnn: No new report.
7. Activities: Joyce G.: Please see the upcoming events in the agenda for details.
a.) The Wagon Ride event is actually inside the Colossal Cave Park so there is a $5.00 parking fee.
b.) Mar. 1st is senior day at the Reid Park Zoo. Meet at the Community Center @ 9:00AM. You are on your own for lunch while there. SCRCR meeting will be canceled that day.
c.) Cost for the Biosphere is $20.00.
d.) The outing to Maynard’s restaurant and market place has been moved to Mar. 24th.
e.) Joyce has been unsuccessful at getting a response from Rosemont Copper mine re a tour there. If anyone else wants to try or knows of a better way (besides e-mail) to contact them, please contact Joyce, or just give it a try.
f.) Betty announced that she has tickets for the Blues Brothers @ the Gaslight Theatre on Mon., Apr. 9th. If interested, please give her a call.
8. Group Concerns: a.) Hikers had a wet and cold hike at Parker Canyon Lake yesterday but ended up enjoying themselves at the winery afterward. 15 people took part in that hike! Next week the hikers will venture off to Golden Gate Loop.
b.) A thank you went out to Richard R. who handled the Super Bowl arrangements, including the betting pool. Colette cleaned up pretty well on that pool, by the way!
c.) A big round of applause was given to Tony and Sandy P. on this, their 54th Wedding Anniversary. Tony was in attendance at the meeting but Sandy was slaving away in the kitchen (WHAT?).
d.) As yet there is no definitive news about funeral/memorial arrangements for Lynn L. Gladys will keep us updated as soon as she hears something.
e.) Dick J. is in the process of working with the mayors of Marana and Tucson to make the area a welcoming one for military veterans and to encourage military reunions. Stores/businesses offering discounts to veterans is in the works. He is also working with the Convention Bureau. We encourage Dick to keep us posted as to the success of his efforts.
