Minutes of Meeting Held June 18, 2009

1. Call to Order: President Joan Travis-Triumph. In Joan’s absence, Jim opened the meeting at 9:30 a.m. and led the pledge of allegiance. Thirty-seven people were present.

2. Host/Hostess: Ed & Collette: Welcomed back were, Elaine B., Margie, Mary T., and Jeanne.

3. Vice-President: Jim: Chaired the meeting.

4. Secretary: Lew: Last week’s minutes were accepted as written.

5. Treasurer: Walt: Financial status: Checking: $827, Cash: $22, Total: $849. (No extra-ordinary expense was incurred in the past week.)

6. Coordinators Reports:

6.1 Refreshments: Jan & Linda A.: Today’s refreshments were by JoAnn & Walt with Kay. (If unable to help as scheduled, please let Linda or Jan know by Tuesday, if possible.)

6.2 Sunshine: John & Linda D. JoAnn reports: (a) Elaine S. is home now and recovering slowly. She describes her last episode as Hell. ….. (b) Stan is back at home now after his knee surgery and is already walking with a cane. ….. Please call if you hear of any health issues.

6.3 Philanthropy: Betty: (a) Not enough was collected to be delivered to the Food Bank. It was suggested that we collect manufacturer coupons for the military; evidently they are acceptable at commissaries even if out of date as much as six months. John and Nancy Lambert contributed a bunch of stuff for the military.

6.4 Activities: Alice B. See the attached agenda for events in the next few weeks.

7. Old and/or New Business: None.

8. Good of the Group: (a) Betty will be absent on 10-July, so the Casino trip will be the following Friday, the 17th. ….. (b) Gladys reiterated her request for us to sign in for her 80th birthday celebration; she needs to know approximately how many will be coming on 25-July. ….. (c) A card of thanks from Stan and Suzette was read by Jim. ….. (d) Ed A. thanked Jim for his efforts in getting the ramps fixed; Jim said that he would inquire about getting them painted and other improvements, maybe by SCRCR volunteers. Jim will meet with Sarah regarding that and, at the same time, convey the appreciation of SCRCR for their quick action along with the HOA staff. Jim has some pictures that he will present next week. ….. (e) In a discussion about a good diet, Betty postulated that a bucket of pop-corn at the movie theater contains as much fat as four McDonald hamburgers! ….. (f) Fathers Day brunches at Luna Bella were enjoyed by all. ….. (g) Barbara H. explained the fireworks display on July-4 near the library. Betty said that the Desert Son church on Cortaro has a free BBQ starting at 6 PM; donations are appreciated. Joan M. said that the Lord of Grace church has a similar arrangement. ….. (i) Walt told us that the plaque would be returned (amended) next week.

Minutes of Meeting Held June 18, 2009

1. Call to Order: President Joan Travis-Triumph opened the meeting at 9:30 a.m. and led the pledge of allegiance. Forty people were present.

2. Host/Hostess: Ed & Collette: No report.

3. Vice-President: Jim: A new roster was issued; we have 68 members. Jim had to chase a dove out of the house; now he is going to get a security door.

4. Secretary: Lew: Last week’s minutes were accepted as written.

5. Treasurer: Walt: Financial status: Checking: $802, Cash: $22, Total: $824 – no change! (One extra-ordinary expense today was $32.89 for badge material.)

6. Coordinators Reports:

6.1 Refreshments: Jan & Linda A.: Today’s refreshments were by Sandy & Tony with Alice. (If unable to help as scheduled, please let Linda or Jan know by Tuesday, if possible.)

6.2 Sunshine: John & Linda D. (a) Elaine is home now and recovering slowly. ….. (b) Don Brick continued to recover slowly from Swine Flu. ….. (c) Stan is still in hospital but is doing OK. ….. (d) Linda D. met Ernie and he looked good. ….. (e) Bonnie reported that Pearl Thompson had died on 22nd May at the age of 88; she was one of the founders of SCRCR. ….. Please call if you hear of any health issues.

6.3 Philanthropy: Betty: (a) Thirty-two pounds and $10 were delivered to the Food Bank. It was suggested that we collect manufacturer coupons for the military; evidently they are acceptable at commissaries even if out of date.

6.4 Activities: Alice B. See the attached agenda for events in the next few weeks.

7. Old and/or New Business: None.

8. Good of the Group: (a) Joan T. related some scams being incurred at gas stations in Georgia. To check the accuracy of a gas pump, add exactly 10 gallons and the cost should correspond with the cost per gallon times 10. Lew suggested getting gas at Costco; it is reliable and is always the cheapest in town, sometimes as much as 10 cents per gallon lower than our local stations. ..… (b) Betty will be absent on 7-July, so the Casino trip will be the following Friday, the 14th. ….. (c) Gladys asked us to sign in for her 80th birthday celebration; she needs to know approximately how many will be coming on 25-July. ….. (d) Alice B. said that twenty-one members enjoyed excellent food and service at the Outback.

Preliminary Minutes of Meeting Held June 11, 2009

1. Call to Order: President Joan Travis-Triumph opened the meeting at 9:30 a.m. and led the pledge of allegiance. Forty-two people were present. Joan read “Creative Puns”.

2. Host/Hostess: Ed & Collette: A new member, Lily, was introduced; originally from Greece, she has been in the U.S. for forty-five years. John Lambert, president of our BOD was acknowledged.

3. Vice-President: Jim told a “Touching Story”.

4. Secretary: Lew: Last week’s minutes were passed as written.

5. Treasurer: Walt: Financial status: Checking: $802, Cash: $22, Total: $824. (No extra-ordinary expenses were incurred.) Walt reminded us that it’s time to pay dues for the half-year.

6. Coordinators Reports:

6.1 Refreshments: Jan & Linda A.: Today’s refreshments were by Lew & Agnes with Lynn. (If unable to help as scheduled, please let Linda or Jan know by Tuesday, if possible.)

6.2 Sunshine: John & Linda D. (a) Carol reported on Elaine Schwartz’s trip to NMC. She is recovering slowly but painfully. A golf-ball sized obstruction was removed from her bowel. ….. (b) Joan T. reported that Don Brick was recovering slowly from Swine Flu. He is now walking and trying to recover his strength. ….. (c) Joan M. was present and recovered from a recent episode. Please call if you hear of any health issues.

6.3 Philanthropy: Betty: (a) Thirty pounds were delivered to the Food Bank. We are still collecting stuff for making up military packages in October. Crystal-Lite, Cool-ade, etc. are much looked forward to. ….. (b) Sandy asked us to collect “Box Tops for Education” which are so marked, also save the labels on Campbell’s cans. ….. (c) Betty reminded us to collect school supplies for our local schools.

6.4 Activities: Alice B. issued a new activities schedule. See the attached agenda for events in the next few weeks.

7. Old and/or New Business: None.

8. Good of the Group: (a) Frank congratulated Betty on the good job she is doing. ….. (b) Alice B. told us that Frank and Joan have decided to, once again, open their house and yard for a picnic brunch for all SCRCR members on the fourth of July. Joan said there would be games and contests. Please sign up so that they know how many to expect. ….. (c) Gladys is going to celebrate her eightieth birthday by having a brunch on 25-July. ….. (d) Ed A. asked about the status of the wheel chair ramps rebuild. John Lambert spoke about priorities. Right now they have a problem getting rid of mold in the Windmill Office, estimated to cost between $20,000 and $40,000. Hopefully, the ramp revision will get the go-ahead by the end of next week. ….. (e) John D. asked if anyone has the center-fold of the Vamos section of the Daily Star that recently displayed an article about the De Grazia museum. ….. (f) John Lambert gave a talk about the finances of the HOA and asked for volunteers to fill committee positions. ….. (g) For the second time this year all celebrants were absent for their birthday celebration.

9. Adjournment: 10:05 AM. It was followed by “Fun Time” as Joan T. announced. On this 15th anniversary, fifteen surviving members were introduced by their joining dates and given red roses. Joan remarked that most of the ladies were in the crafts group. Janet Knebel, Mary Taylor, Margie, and the Steins were absent. The following members were presented: Jul-94, Bonnie & Bob (actually should be August) ….. Sep-94, Betty & Bo ….. Sep-94, Suzanne & Al ….. Mar-95, Agnes & Lew ….. Nov-95, Vi ….. Dec-95, Edna ….. Nov-98, Magda & Armando ….. Dec-98, Peggy. Joan pointed out the number of times and various offices that the MacDonalds had held. Ed thanked Lew for the jobs that he had done.

1. Call to Order: President Joan Travis-Triumph opened the meeting at 9:33 a.m. Jim led the pledge of allegiance. Thirty-five people were present. Joan read “Gentle Thoughts”.

2. Host/Hostess: Ed & Collette: John & Nancy Lambert were introduced and welcomed. Nila and Mike were welcomed back.

3. Vice-President: Jim: mentioned a trip to Rocky Point; the economy hurts them badly.

4. Secretary: Lew: Last week’s minutes were passed as written.

5. Treasurer: Walt: Financial status: Checking: $808, Cash: $22, Total: $830. (No extra-ordinary expenses were incurred.)

6. Coordinators Reports:

6.1 Refreshments: Jan & Linda A.: Today’s refreshments were by John & Linda with Mary J. (If unable to help as scheduled, please let Linda or Jan know by Tuesday, if possible.)

6.2 Sunshine: John & Linda D. (a) Carol reported on Elaine Schwartz’s trip to NMC. She had surgery for bowel blockage; no cancer was found. ….. (b) Joan T. reported that Don Brick was still suffering from suspected Swine Flu. He is taking heavy antibiotics and trying to build up his strength. ….. (c) Lew mentioned that Janet was now 99% blind and Frank was losing mobility in his other side. ….. (d) Joan M. had a shunt and an infected part removed. Please call if you hear of any health issues.

6.3 Philanthropy: Betty: There was not enough for a trip to the Food Bank. We are collecting stuff for making up military packages in October. It was remarked that (powdered) Crystal-Lite, Cool-ade, etc. are much looked forward to. There are now two change collection jars, one for the food bank and one for the military.

6.4 Activities: Alice B.: See the attached agenda for events in the next few weeks.

7. Old and/or New Business: None.

8. Good of the Group: (a) Alice B. said that, after a good sign-up, only four went to the Mission, but they were joined by five others at the Casino for lunch; she asked us to sign up for the 15th July Gaslight so that we can get the discount if twenty are going. ….. (b) Joan T. read a thank-you card from Joan M. ….. (c) Joan T. mentioned extensive coverage by the local papers and TV regarding the cell tower. ….. (d) Frank congratulated Edna for her article in Windmill and her mention of vendors who gave us prizes; he is going to show it to them when he next solicits donations. ….. (e) John Lambert gave information about a future trip to Caterpillar Company. He and Nancy also got involved in discussions about the cell tower and gas station. As John said, although dormant right now, the gas station is still viable as far as Circle-K is concerned. Mike concurred and said the same applies to the tower company, although they are said to have abandoned it. Jorge thanked everyone who went to the protest meeting. ….. (f) Joan T. informed us that, in addition to birthday celebrations, we will be celebrating the fifteenth anniversary of the founding of SCRCR by Janet Knebel (Kells). ….. (g) Nila mentioned that she is collecting for various organizations and if we participated we would get 20% of the value of tickets sold. ….. (h) Alice B. needs some new ideas of where to go and where to eat; give her suggestions. ….. (i) Jim advised us that Papa Murphy’s offered to come and demonstrate baking their pizza on a barbecue. ….. (j) Barbara H. has a two-bedroom time-share in the Sedona area that she has offered to share for a couple of weeks while she is away.
