1. Call to Order: President Joan Travis-Triumph opened the meeting at 9:33 a.m. Jim led the pledge of allegiance. Thirty-five people were present. Joan read “Gentle Thoughts”.

2. Host/Hostess: Ed & Collette: John & Nancy Lambert were introduced and welcomed. Nila and Mike were welcomed back.

3. Vice-President: Jim: mentioned a trip to Rocky Point; the economy hurts them badly.

4. Secretary: Lew: Last week’s minutes were passed as written.

5. Treasurer: Walt: Financial status: Checking: $808, Cash: $22, Total: $830. (No extra-ordinary expenses were incurred.)

6. Coordinators Reports:

6.1 Refreshments: Jan & Linda A.: Today’s refreshments were by John & Linda with Mary J. (If unable to help as scheduled, please let Linda or Jan know by Tuesday, if possible.)

6.2 Sunshine: John & Linda D. (a) Carol reported on Elaine Schwartz’s trip to NMC. She had surgery for bowel blockage; no cancer was found. ….. (b) Joan T. reported that Don Brick was still suffering from suspected Swine Flu. He is taking heavy antibiotics and trying to build up his strength. ….. (c) Lew mentioned that Janet was now 99% blind and Frank was losing mobility in his other side. ….. (d) Joan M. had a shunt and an infected part removed. Please call if you hear of any health issues.

6.3 Philanthropy: Betty: There was not enough for a trip to the Food Bank. We are collecting stuff for making up military packages in October. It was remarked that (powdered) Crystal-Lite, Cool-ade, etc. are much looked forward to. There are now two change collection jars, one for the food bank and one for the military.

6.4 Activities: Alice B.: See the attached agenda for events in the next few weeks.

7. Old and/or New Business: None.

8. Good of the Group: (a) Alice B. said that, after a good sign-up, only four went to the Mission, but they were joined by five others at the Casino for lunch; she asked us to sign up for the 15th July Gaslight so that we can get the discount if twenty are going. ….. (b) Joan T. read a thank-you card from Joan M. ….. (c) Joan T. mentioned extensive coverage by the local papers and TV regarding the cell tower. ….. (d) Frank congratulated Edna for her article in Windmill and her mention of vendors who gave us prizes; he is going to show it to them when he next solicits donations. ….. (e) John Lambert gave information about a future trip to Caterpillar Company. He and Nancy also got involved in discussions about the cell tower and gas station. As John said, although dormant right now, the gas station is still viable as far as Circle-K is concerned. Mike concurred and said the same applies to the tower company, although they are said to have abandoned it. Jorge thanked everyone who went to the protest meeting. ….. (f) Joan T. informed us that, in addition to birthday celebrations, we will be celebrating the fifteenth anniversary of the founding of SCRCR by Janet Knebel (Kells). ….. (g) Nila mentioned that she is collecting for various organizations and if we participated we would get 20% of the value of tickets sold. ….. (h) Alice B. needs some new ideas of where to go and where to eat; give her suggestions. ….. (i) Jim advised us that Papa Murphy’s offered to come and demonstrate baking their pizza on a barbecue. ….. (j) Barbara H. has a two-bedroom time-share in the Sedona area that she has offered to share for a couple of weeks while she is away.
