Minutes of Meeting of Apr. 21, 2011

1. Call to Order: Jim opened the meeting at 9:30 AM with the Pledge of Allegiance and told us a bit about their trip to Madera Canyon.
2. Host/Hostess: Dennis and Alice: Welcomed back Adria, Don and Hilde, Ruth, Gladys, Bob and Bonnie. The new roster is out – any changes in e-mail addresses, please notify Alice K.
3. Vice-President: Frank: We now have 85 members.
4. Secretary: Jeanne: The minutes of Apr. 7th were approved and accepted. 45 members attended today.
5. Treasurer: Walt: absent. JoAnn reported that the total in our treasury at present is $1243.89.
6. Coordinators’ Reports:
a) Refreshments: Elaine and Val: Since Elaine and Val will be gone for a while, Betty will take over arranging refreshments for the group.
b) Sunshine: Linda D: Iris J. is now at home. Tressie S. was in an auto accident, but Linda could not reach her to find out her health status.
c) Historian: Magda: no report. Magda brought up the issue of having the orange stickers for emergencies in order for paramedics and EMT’s to know if a DNR is not requested. Apparently these stickers are available possibly from the fire dept. in order to advise emergency staff whether or not to do resuscitation. Susan will get us more information on this next week.
d) Philanthropy: Betty: 52 # of food went to the Food Bank last week. Coupons were mailed. Remember donations for the military and any addresses you may have which are needed by the end of April. Packing boxes starts next week. More addresses are needed for military.
e) Busybody: JoAnn: Another reminder re emergency contact cards. She has most of them now.
7. Activities: Carol A. reported that 30 members attended the picnic. 5 people went to Bach’s Greenhouse. Only 4 people are signed up for the Arizona Theatre and 8 are needed for the group discount. This means that everybody will be on their own if they are attending this event. The picnic was canceled for Mother’s Day. Please check the agenda for upcoming activities.
8. Group Concerns: a.) JoAnn reported that yesterday’s hike went well. Next week is the last hike of the season and it will be to the Chiricahuas. Arrangements will be made as to whether to take a shuttle or to take 2 cars. It is an 8 mile hike from top to bottom. Contact JoAnn if interested. E-mails will be sent to members already signed up to receive them.
b.) Jim reminded us of the signs of a stroke: S,T,R – which stands for smile, talk and raise both arms. Another is to stick out your tongue and look for any distortion.
c.) Pot luck will follow today’s meeting.
D.) Jim also reported that military personnel need socks.
e.) Ed D. has someone’s lawn chair from the picnic. Contact him if it’s yours.
f.) Dick J. wanted to thank Val and Richard for the great work done on the Who’s Who album and arranging refreshments.
g.)Bo wanted everyone to know about 2 websites for getting addresses for military members: www.anyairman.com or www.anysoldier.com. Send any addresses you may have to Bo. There will also be a garage sale at Bo and Betty’s and the proceeds will go to charity. Contact Bo re details.
h.) Jim told us about another website that will get e-mails to military personnel within 2 days: MotoMail.us.
i.) Magda commented on the great landscaping job done on Twin Peaks.
j.) Jim reminded everyone that Windmill Park will be closed for the Easter Egg Hunt and then for grading the fields. It probably won’t be open until sometime in June.

Minutes of Meeting of Apr. 7, 2011

1. Call to Order: Jim –absent. Frank opened the meeting at 9:30 AM with the Pledge of Allegiance .
2. Host/Hostess: Dennis and Alice: Welcomed back Agnes, Donna, Sue and Dick J.
3. Vice-President: Frank: We now have 85 members.
4. Secretary: Jeanne: The minutes of Mar.31 were approved and accepted. 37 members attended today.
5. Treasurer: Walt: The total in our treasury at present is $1243.89.
6. Coordinators’ Reports:
a) Refreshments: Elaine and Val: Refreshments today were provided by Joan, Frank and Dorothy B. Next week is the Columbus Park picnic. On Apr. 21st is the Easter pot luck luncheon and on Apr. 28th, refreshments will be provided by Don, Hilde and Mike R.
b) Sunshine: Linda D: Iris J. is not at rehab. Contact will be made with her daughter to determine where Iris is at present and how she is doing. Shirley M. is dealing with health issues and her son is here assisting her. Lynn L. has quit smoking but is now battling pneumonia. Adria L. has been ill (no further information). Barb and Richard L. are about the same.
c) Historian: Magda: absent.

7. Activities: Carol A. –absent. Joan T. gave a reminder of upcoming activities. Please check the agenda. Alice B. stated that the restaurant chosen for the evening of the Gaslight Theatre event will be B.J.’s Brewery on Broadway @ 5:00PM. Anyone interested in the Arizona Theatre presentation of The Mystery of Irma Vep should contact Vi so that she can have reservations arranged by this weekend.
8. Group Concerns: a.) JoAnn reported on this past Wednesday’s hike which went well. Next week the hikers will meet again @ 8:00 AM and will be going to Lower Sabino Canyon Trail. This is approximately 3 miles and has an elevation gain of about 100 ft. b.) Mike R. reminded us that this is Second Saturday in downtown Tucson. The Tucson Symphony will be performing Saturday at 7:00 and 8:00 pm at the Fox theatre – admission is free. This weekend is the International Glassblowers Festival.
c.) Dick J. reminded us that Apr.8th is the dance for the Marana Food Bank at Heritage Highlands. Oldies music will be featured. Admission is $35.00 for the dancing and the meal.
d.) Dick also has the SCRCR who’s Who albums for members. Val has done a beautiful job and will be updating the album whenever we have 5 new members.
e.) Dick also shared his and Sue’s experience at the Quartzsite Festival and recommends it to anyone who may be interested in the future.
f.) Jeanne suggested that the agenda not itemize each Thursday’s SCRCR meeting (it is in the heading content). The group was in agreement with this as it takes up too much space on the agenda sheet. Also suggested and agreed upon was that the agenda will only cover the next 6 weeks at a time.

Minutes of Meeting of Mar. 31, 2011

1. Call to Order: Jim opened the meeting at 9:03 AM with the Pledge of Allegiance and then shared a really good joke.
2. Host/Hostess: Dennis and Alice: Two guests were introduced: Nancy M and Su-Linn . They each introduced themselves and shared some personal information.
3. Vice-President: Frank: We now have 85 members.
4. Secretary: Jeanne: The minutes of Mar. 24th were approved and accepted. 37 members attended today.
5. Treasurer: Walt: The total in our treasury at present is $1219.89.
6. Coordinators’ Reports:
a) Refreshments: Elaine and Val: Refreshments today were provided by Jim, Linda and Edna. Joan and Frank will be taking care of refreshments next week plus one more member yet to be notified.
b) Sunshine: Linda D: Joan M. attended today and is doing well after her medical procedure on her throat. Iris Jennings is doing well after hip surgery but is also recovering from pneumonia. Magda’s husband, Armando is still in quite a bit of pain from shingles.
c) Historian: Magda: No new information.
d) Philanthropy: Betty: 40# of food went to the Food Bank last week. Donations for the military and any addresses you may have are needed by the end of April.
e) Busybody: JoAnn: absent.
7. Activities: Carol A. The new agenda for activities was distributed today and Carol gave a rundown of the upcoming events for April. Please check the agenda. Carol thanked Alice B. for typing up the new agenda. There are now 20 people signed up for the Gaslight Theatre event on Apr. 20th. The performance at the Arizona Theatre on Apr. 22nd is The Mystery of Irma Beck. 8 people are needed for a group rate for that event and the theater is located at 330 S. Scott.
8. Group Concerns: a.) Walt reported on next week’s hike, in place of JoAnn: the group will be going to Golden Gate Loop Trail which will be 6.6 miles round trip with a moderate elevation gain. Be at the community center at 8 AM. Jorge reported on this past Wednesday’s hike at Picacho Peak. Very few attended so he and Jim went to the top and it was extremely rough.
b.) Val gave Jim a sample of the new SCRCR Who’s Who album, which was shown to the group and everyone seemed pleased with the results. The purpose of this album is so that members can connect names and faces.
c.) Jim reported that he will be gone next week, so Frank will take over in his place.
