IMPORTANT NOTICE

IMPORTANT NOTICE
PLEASE NOTE We are an active group of congenial senior citizens and retirees who meet at 9:00 AM on most Thursdays at The Station Pub and Grill at Wade and Silverbell in Marana, Arizona. The group has been in continuous existence since 1994. Prior to January 2013 we met at the Continental Ranch Community Center. The Association Board of Directors changed the use policy of the community center to include a $40.00 fee for each weekly meeting. With our small operating budget we were unable to continue meeting there. Rock N Java hosted our meetings until their business closed.   Now our home is The Station.

Minutes of Meeting for February 16, 2017

Minutes of Meeting for February 16, 2017
1. Call to Order: Bill E. led us in the Pledge of Allegiance and Dorie led us in singing God Bless America. Bill told us that Gladys would be coming around with the “collection bucket” in memory of Joan Marchese and then turned the meeting over to Susan and Barb.
2. Hostesses: Susan D. and Barbara L. Barb welcomed back Jeanette and said we had 43 in attendance today. Susan and Gene’s daughter Margaret is leaving our area for Juneau, Alaska to continue her career as a flight medic. Susan asked for prayers for her which I know we will gladly do.
3. Vice-President: Debbi S.: Debbi reports but we have a total of 120 members and will prepare a new roster when all dues have been paid.
4. Secretary: Kristi G.: The minutes for February 9, 2017 were approved and accepted.
5. Treasurer: Walt R.: Walt reports a total of 2,533.10 in the bank. We still have 21 members who have not yet paid their dues. Please people get that in to Walt ASAP. He is accepting checks for dues which is $24.00 for the entire year! $2 bucks a month for all this fun and wonderful company! You can mail them if you prefer to Walt at 8914 N. Veridian Drive, Tucson 85743.
Dues must be paid by the end of February, 2017 or you will be removed from the roster.
Walt said we collected $112.50 in Joan’s memory and that will be sent to her family. Sandy reports that the services for Joan will be in Chicago on 2.24.
6. Coordinators’ Reports:
a. Sunshine: Dorie Z.: Our dear June S., is still recuperating at home - please keep sending prayers her way. Linda, Bill and Deb are all back and over that “creepin crud” that has affected so many of us. Donna says that Betsy is at Windward Assisted Living in Oro Valley. Her phone hopefully is hooked up and working by now so give Betsy a call so she knows we are still thinking of her. Also, Billy D. will be going to his new home next week so give Billy a call every now and again so he knows we’re still thinking of him too.
b. Historian: Magda Q.: Magda didn’t have any history to share with us today but she had HUMONGOUS grapefruits that she and Armando shared with us. Lordie, Lordie I had never seen such big grapefruits in my life. Magda also needs more pull tabs for Ronald McDonald House. Thanks to Donna’s generous big bag of tabs, Magda was able to fill one of the jugs but she’s starting on a new one and needs to have it filled by the end of March – so “drink up” people and save the pull tabs J
c. Busybody: Barbara J.: No report.
d. Philanthropy: John Z. No report.
e. Hiking: Jim A. said they had a very nice hike at the Preserve. There were 3 from our group there. Next week’s hike will be in Pima Canyon Remember they hike every
Wednesday morning and meet at 8:20 at the east end of the “Walgreen” parking lot at Twin Peaks and Coachline.
f. Activities: Pam M.: See activities list below.
7. Group Concerns/Good of the Group:
* Please check the Town of Marana website for information on the Ina Road closing, detours, etc.
* Magda brought up a great idea and that is when we go to one of our dinners, theaters, day trips, whatever, we should come back and tell everyone about it and how much fun it was. Great idea Magda!
* Bill E. said the By-Laws committee hopes to have information to us by the March 2nd meeting. We’d like to get this all settled before the snowbirds leave.
8. Thought of the Day: Sandy P. gave us a nice ending thought and Bill E. told a couple of good jokes. Sandy was asked about her grandson Scott’s pizzeria and she says it’s open and called Fiamme Pizza. It’s at the corner of Sunrise and Swan.
9. Adjournment: Bill E. The meeting ended at 10:09 AM.

Minutes of Meeting for February 9, 2017

Minutes of Meeting for February 9, 2017
1. Call to Order: Unfortunately Bill E. was not feeling well today so we had a “Guest President” Iles W., was kind enough to fill in for Bill. Iles did a great job as always and began the meeting at 9:30 am with the Pledge of Allegiance followed by us all singing God Bless America. Iles told a couple of really cute jokes and we were off.
2. Hostesses: Susan D. and Barbara L. Barb said we had 46 in attendance today and we are welcoming a newcomer Linda who will be joining us this week. Welcome Linda! Sad to say that we are losing one member though. Due to failing eyesight and not being able to drive anymore, Billy D. is leaving us and moving out to Davis-Monthan. In that regard, Billy talked to me after the meeting and he has a huge problem. Billy has 4 little dogs but can only take 2 with him. He has a pair of 2-year-old female Chihuahuas that are both spayed and have their shots that he needs to find a good home for. Anyone who is interested or who knows of anyone who would be, please call Billy or me and I’ll hook you up with him. This is a very sad situation that unfortunately happens all too often and the poor doggies or kitties don’t have a clue as to what is going on and where their “person” is. Please put on your thinking caps and let us know if you have someone who would be angels for these 2 little girls. Thanks so very much.
3. Vice-President: Debbi S.: Debbi reports but we have a total of 120 members and reminded us that for those without computers, there were printed rosters, birthday lists, etc., on the bar. Thanks for doing that Deb! J
4. Secretary: Kristi G.: The minutes for February 2, 2017 were approved and accepted.
5. Treasurer: Walt R.: Walt reported that we have a balance of $2,353.01. Walt says there are still 21 members who have not yet paid their dues.
6. Coordinators’ Reports:
a. Sunshine: Dorie Z.: Tressie and Cheryl still progressing well and driving again. Our dear June S., is still recuperating at home - please keep sending prayers her way but please don’t call, just send cards. It’s hard for June to talk as she runs short on air.
b. Historian: Magda Q.: Magda told of 17 years ago and how a small group of 14 – 16 took a small bus provided by Casino del Sol and had a wonderful time there. She told of how happy and carefree and all the laughter on the bus going to the casino and, unfortunately, the dead silence on the way home. We can all identify with that! The casino stopped the bus after about a year and then the mighty few forged ahead and carpooled to the casino determined to win their fortune. They then took a bus up to Laughlin and spent a couple of nights of there and had a great time. This too stopped
after a while. So…….after a show of hands, we are going to look into going gambling once again. More to follow on that.
c. Busybody: Barbara J.: No Barb so no report.
d. Philanthropy: John Z. No report.
e. Hiking: Craig S. said they had a very hard hike at (I think he said) Tank Top trail, most did not make it to the top. He isn’t sure yet where next week’s hike will take place. Remember they hike every Wednesday morning and meet at 8:20 at the east end of the “Walgreen” parking lot at Twin Peaks and Coachline.
f. Activities: Pam M.: See activities list below.
7. Group Concerns/Good of the Group:
* Please check the Town of Marana website for information on the Ina Road closing, detours, etc.
* Magda told of one of our members Joan Marchese who was quite ill over the years fighting cancer but fight she did until she passed on this past Friday into our Loving Father’s arms. Magda told of a very brave woman who never gave up but finally the Good Lord needed her and she went on to her reward. Please keep her and her family in our thoughts and prayers.
8. Thought of the Day: Dorie Z. gave us a great ending thought.
9. Adjournment: Iles W.: Iles told a closing joke and adjourned the meeting at 10:23 AM.

Veridian Drive, Tucson 85743. Walt also told us that he heard from Barbara Romo who is still planning on coming back and says hi to everyone.

5. Coordinators’ Reports:
a. Sunshine: Dorie Z.: Tressie and Cheryl still progressing well and driving again. Our dear June S., is now recuperating at home - please keep sending prayers her way but please don’t call, just send cards. It’s hard for June to talk as she runs short on air. Susan D. reminded us all how much the cards mean to someone who isn’t feeling well. She was ill for so long and wasn’t able to talk to anyone or have visitors and she said almost every week she received a card which totally uplifted her spirits.
Donna StJ reported that Betsy D., has been moved to an assisted living facility. She will find out the information on that for us so we can keep in touch with Betsy.
