Minutes of Meeting 15 April, 2010

1 Call to Order: President Jim Alam was absent and V.P. Frank Triumph called the meeting to order at 9:30 AM., followed by the Pledge of Allegiance.
2 Host/Hostess: Bonnie and Bob Vantrepotte welcomed back Kay P., Al L. and Joan M.
3 Vice-President: Frank reported that we now have 73 members.
4 Secretary: Jeanne: The minutes of Apr. 8th were accepted and approved. 36 members were in attendance today. Please notify Jeanne if there are any changes to the agenda.
5 Treasurer: Walt was absent, but gave the treasurer’s report to Joann: Total money available to us at present is $719.88. The memorial plaque will be available next week.
6 Coordinators’ Reports:
6.1 Refreshments: Jorge and Linda A.: Refreshments this week were provided by Richard and Barbara L. and also Walt and Joann. Next week’s refreshments will be provided by Bob and Bonnie, as well as Mary Taylor and Suzette Stein.
6.2 Sunshine: Linda D.: Ed Dubsky is doing well. Mary Jensen is at Life Center and she sounds like she is doing well. Agnes is doing okay and will be seeing the doctor today.
6.3 Historian: Magda: Magda was absent today. Pictures were submitted from yesterday’s hike at Camino del Cerro.
6.4 Philanthropy: Betty: No food went to the food bank this past week. Boxes for Armed Forces members are filling up and will go out on the last Thursday of April. Make sure Betty has addresses. She reminded us to be generous with the contributions such as coupons and money in the jars placed for these purposes.
6.5 Busybody: Gladys: Have Gladys’ phone number handy or in cell phones so that if there is an emergency, she can be reached and make the necessary contacts. Gladys can be reached at 520-292-9228. Gladys does not contact people herself. If you have information, please contact her. Edna will be gone for a while and Gladys has her information.
6.6 Activities: Alice Behnke: See the attached agenda for events. Alice reminded us to attend the YMCA open house on Apr. 25th. Tickets for the Gaslight Theater have been distributed. She is collecting money for the Big Band Express and also reminded us of dinner at Nana’s Kitchen on May 5th and the winery tour on June 7th. Barbara informed us that if at least 10 people attend the winery tour we will have a private tour, wine tasting and lunch. We can then stop at another winery on the way home, if desired. Nothing new on the Mother’s Day celebration - TBD next week. Dick J. shared that he saw The Sheik at the Gaslight Theater and highly recommends it.
7 Group Concerns:
a.) Joann announced that next week’s hike will be at Pima Canyon and the start time will be earlier. Plan to carpool at 8:00 AM.
b.) Edna thanked everyone who helped at Frank Kell’s memorial service.
c.) Sandy shared that the Osprey Marine memorial service at Marana Municipal Airport was outstanding!
d.) Bo thanked all who attended his birthday party. He was very surprised. He also requested any cooking pots that can be spared as a donation to his church’s scout troop.
e.) Mike R. attended a hearing seminar at the U of A and recommends them highly. A local group called Aloha on Ft. Lowell has hearing devices and you can look them over.
f.) John D. had his house painted and is very pleased. If anyone wants information about the painter who did the job, contact him.

Minutes of meeting 8 April, 2010

1. Call to Order: President Jim Alam was absent and V.P. Frank Triumph called the meeting to order at 9:32 AM., followed by the Pledge of Allegiance. Frank announced that an additional collection would be taken for Janice K. since not all members were present last week. An additional $20.00 was collected.
2. Host/Hostess: Bonnie and Bob Vantrepotte introduced a guest, Frank Majors, who shared some personal information and was welcomed by the group.
3. Vice-President: Frank reported that we now have 73 members.
4. Secretary: Jeanne: The minutes of Mar. 25 th were approved after an amendment re the YMCA open house on Apr. 25th. Previous minutes indicated that it was sponsored by the YWCA and that it would start @ 12:00 PM. The correction is that it is sponsored by the YMCA and will start @ 1:00 PM. 32 members were in attendance today. Please notify Jeanne if there are any changes to the agenda.
5. Treasurer: Walt was absent, but gave the treasurer’s report to Jeanne: Total money available to us at present is $754.88. The memorial plaque will be available next week.

6.1 Refreshments: Jorge and Linda A.: Refreshments this week were provided by Magda, John and Nancy Lambert. Next week’s refreshments will be provided by Richard and Barbara L.
6.2 Sunshine: Linda D.: Ed Dubsky is undergoing P.T. and doing well. The donation for Frank Kells will be given to Janice.
6.3 Historian: Magda: She received many pictures of Bo’s birthday party from Betty and Frank T. gave her pictures from the ball game.
6.4 Philanthropy: Betty: No food went to the food bank this past week. Boxes for Armed Forces members will go out on the last Thursday of April. Make sure Betty has addresses. So far, she has only one address.
6.5 Busybody: Gladys: Have Gladys’ phone number handy or in cell phones so that if there is an emergency, she can be reached and make the necessary contacts. Gladys can be reached at 520-292-9228. Gladys does not contact people herself. If you have information, please contact her.
6.6 Activities: Alice Behnke: See the attached agenda for events. Alice reminded us to sign up for the Gaslight Theater and Big Band Express as she is short the number of people needed for the group discount. The money for these tickets now has to be submitted to her no later than Apr. 12th – preferably sooner. Mother’s Day celebration is still undecided and TBD next week. Frank thanked Alice for all of her hard work on the activities.
7. Group Concerns:
a.) Joann was absent – no new hiking plans at present. Bob reported on the beauty of last week’s hike.
b.) Frank Kells’ memorial service will be on Apr. 19th @ 7:00 PM. Call Magda if you need a ride.
c.) The Marine memorial service will be on Sat., Apr. 10th @ 10:00AM at the Marana Municipal Airport.
d.) Dick J. informed the group that the Submarine Veterans Group will have a float display at Sunflower on Apr. 14th from 8:00 to 10:30 AM. Come by and take a look. He also shared that the new car wash @ Monkey Business is very good.
e.) Joan T. gave an update on the solid waste landfill Marana is planning. Since many agencies are requesting Marana to slow down on this decision, she encouraged us all to be aware and VOCAL about our thoughts and opinions on this issue!
f.) Birthday cake and celebrations to follow this meeting.

Minutes of meeting held April 1, 2010


1. Call to Order: President Jim Alam was absent and V.P. Frank Triumph called the meeting to order at 9:30 AM.,
followed by the Pledge of Allegiance.
Frank announced that a collection would be taken up during the meeting for Janet K. as a result of the death of Frank Kells.
2. Host/Hostess: Bonnie and Bob Vantrepotte welcomed back Rosemarie and Eva.
3. Vice-President: Frank reported that we now have 73 members.
4. Secretary: Jeanne: The minutes of Mar.25 th were approved. 32 members were in attendance today. Please notify Jeanne if there are any changes to the agenda.
5. Treasurer: Walt: Total money available to us at present is $756.88.
6. Coordinators’ Reports:
6.1 Refreshments: Jorge and Linda A.: Refreshments this week were provided by Rosemarie and Eva. Next week refreshments will be provided by John and Nancy Lambert as well as Magda.
6.2 Sunshine: Linda D.: Reported the obvious, which is the passing of Frank Kells. (R.I. P. Frank.) Ed Dubsky had his hip surgery yesterday and is doing quite well!
6.3 Historian: Magda: She received needed pictures except those of the whole board members elected in January 2010 and those of Walt and Joann’s Anniversary. A very good picture of Frank Triumph at the ball game was shown to all members present. (Frank was sleeping or… no…checking his eyelids for cracks!)
6.4 Philanthropy: Betty: 48# of food went to the food bank this past week. Boxes for Armed Forces members will go out on the last Thursday of April. Make sure Betty has addresses. Coupons were mailed, which Betty will be doing monthly.
6.5 Busybody: Gladys: Have Gladys’ phone number handy or in cell phones so that if there is an emergency, she can be reached and make the necessary contacts. Gladys can be reached at 520-292-9228.
6.6 Activities: Alice Behnke: See the attached agenda for events. Alice was absent and Barbara H. reminded us of upcoming events on the agenda. Checks for the Gaslight Theater and Big Band Express are needed by Apr. 15th. For those contemplating dinner at Nana’s Kitchen on May 5th, there will be a Mariachi band and great entertainment. The picnic for Mother’s Day is cancelled. A vote will be taken next week to choose between celebrating Mother’s Day at Joan and Frank’s or at Roma Restaurant. If we have enough people sign up for the wineries tour, we may have lunch at a winery in Sonoita!! So sign up!!
7. Group Concerns:
a.) Joann was present and reported no hike had taken place yesterday. Next week’s hike will be the Gold Mine down near AZ - Sonora Desert Museum.
b.) Dennis announced that today is Alice King’s birthday.
c.) Betty reminded us of Bo’s surprise party tonight.
d.) Magda wanted to thank Ed for the picnic idea and suggested that we should do more of them.
e.) Carol reminded us of the Osprey 10th Anniversary being celebrated at Marana airport.
f.) Joan T. shared about the phishing scams going on online re the banks in the area. Don’t give out any information via computer or phone and contact your bank if this occurs. She also up-dated us on the Marana landfill issue and encouraged those who have not done so to sign the petition.
g.) Walt will have our memorial plaque updated and ready by next week. Also, he shared that Janet will receive a check for $115.00 as a result of our donations.
H.) Edna and Mary M. complimented the Sunshine Scouting Troop on their work stuffing eggs for the Easter egg hunt.
i.) Carol shared that the time for the YWCA open house on Apr. 25th is 12:00 - 4:00 PM.
