2. Host/Hostess: Dennis and Alice: Welcomed back Adria, Don and Hilde, Ruth, Gladys, Bob and Bonnie. The new roster is out – any changes in e-mail addresses, please notify Alice K.
3. Vice-President: Frank: We now have 85 members.
4. Secretary: Jeanne: The minutes of Apr. 7th were approved and accepted. 45 members attended today.
5. Treasurer: Walt: absent. JoAnn reported that the total in our treasury at present is $1243.89.
6. Coordinators’ Reports:
a) Refreshments: Elaine and Val: Since Elaine and Val will be gone for a while, Betty will take over arranging refreshments for the group.
b) Sunshine: Linda D: Iris J. is now at home. Tressie S. was in an auto accident, but Linda could not reach her to find out her health status.
c) Historian: Magda: no report. Magda brought up the issue of having the orange stickers for emergencies in order for paramedics and EMT’s to know if a DNR is not requested. Apparently these stickers are available possibly from the fire dept. in order to advise emergency staff whether or not to do resuscitation. Susan will get us more information on this next week.
d) Philanthropy: Betty: 52 # of food went to the Food Bank last week. Coupons were mailed. Remember donations for the military and any addresses you may have which are needed by the end of April. Packing boxes starts next week. More addresses are needed for military.
e) Busybody: JoAnn: Another reminder re emergency contact cards. She has most of them now.
7. Activities: Carol A. reported that 30 members attended the picnic. 5 people went to Bach’s Greenhouse. Only 4 people are signed up for the Arizona Theatre and 8 are needed for the group discount. This means that everybody will be on their own if they are attending this event. The picnic was canceled for Mother’s Day. Please check the agenda for upcoming activities.
8. Group Concerns: a.) JoAnn reported that yesterday’s hike went well. Next week is the last hike of the season and it will be to the Chiricahuas. Arrangements will be made as to whether to take a shuttle or to take 2 cars. It is an 8 mile hike from top to bottom. Contact JoAnn if interested. E-mails will be sent to members already signed up to receive them.
b.) Jim reminded us of the signs of a stroke: S,T,R – which stands for smile, talk and raise both arms. Another is to stick out your tongue and look for any distortion.
c.) Pot luck will follow today’s meeting.
D.) Jim also reported that military personnel need socks.
e.) Ed D. has someone’s lawn chair from the picnic. Contact him if it’s yours.
f.) Dick J. wanted to thank Val and Richard for the great work done on the Who’s Who album and arranging refreshments.
g.)Bo wanted everyone to know about 2 websites for getting addresses for military members: www.anyairman.com or www.anysoldier.com. Send any addresses you may have to Bo. There will also be a garage sale at Bo and Betty’s and the proceeds will go to charity. Contact Bo re details.
h.) Jim told us about another website that will get e-mails to military personnel within 2 days: MotoMail.us.
i.) Magda commented on the great landscaping job done on Twin Peaks.
j.) Jim reminded everyone that Windmill Park will be closed for the Easter Egg Hunt and then for grading the fields. It probably won’t be open until sometime in June.
9. Adjournment: Jim adjourned the meeting at 10:12 AM.
