Minutes of Meeting of May 3, 2012

1. Call to Order: Jim: The meeting opened at 9:30 AM with the Pledge of Allegiance. This was followed by the “5 minute management course” provided by Jim, which was very funny.
2. Host/Hostess: Alice and Dennis: No new members or visitors.
3. Vice-President: Joan: We have 82 SCRCR members. Joan shared with us some examples of why our country might not be okay ”education-wise”. This was humorous and….sad!
4. Secretary: Jeanne: 40 members attended today. SCRCR minutes of April 26 were approved and accepted.
5. Treasurer: Walt: The total in the treasury is now $1287.46.
6. Coordinators’ Reports:
a. Refreshments: Betty: Today: Sandy, Tony and Don O. Next week: Joan and Paul B. and Birthday cake. Thank you! Be sure to sign up for your turn at providing refreshments.
b. Sunshine: Linda D: Sandy covered for Linda today and told us that
  • a.) Joan M. is doing better. Her son is still here and exploring options for Joan.
  • b.) Sandy took Iris to the grocery store. c.) No further report on Bonnie.
  • c. Historian: Magda: absent.
d. Philanthropy: Betty: 44# of food went to the Food Bank this week as well as 17# of non-grocery items.
e. Busybody: JoAnn: Just a reminder to give JoAnn your cell phone number if you are traveling.
7. Activities: Joyce G.: Please see the upcoming events in the agenda for details and changes.
  • a) The Ostrich Ranch was enjoyed by those who went to this event. The Farmer’s Market was great and the Activities Committee will plan another outing there but most likely in the fall, when the number of vendors increases.
  • b.) Betty has signup sheets for the next two performances at the Gaslight Theatre.
  • c.) Mothers’ Day Brunch on May 13 will be at the Bisbee Breakfast Club @ 12:00 PM.
8. Group Concerns/Good of the Group)
  • a.) Dick J. explained his T-shirt which had a pig’s face on it. This goes to the fact that WWll submarines were referred to as “pig boats” since people disembarked smelling like pigs. Nothing further needs to be said about this…..
  • b.) Joan T. reminded us that there will be a media exchange at the Community Center on Saturday, May 5, which is sponsored by the CRCA Activities Committee. The time is from 9:00AM to 12:00 PM. There will be books, CDs and DVDs. Bring one (or more) and take one (or more) – no money involved.
  • c.) A thumbs up was given to our SCRCR members who are on the HOA committees: Joan and Sandy (Activities) and Dorothy, Sandy, Carol and Joyce (Finance).
  • d.) Sue R. had questions re the Christmas Party. This was discussed again and Jim encouraged people to think about it and volunteer to take part in the arrangements for this event. We need to nail down a date, place and contract.
  • e.) Jim wrapped things up with some very interesting Marana history.
9. Adjournment: Joan: The meeting was adjourned at 10:05AM.
