Minutes of Meeting for July 12, 2018

Minutes of Meeting for July 12, 2018

  1. Call to Order:   Bill E.  led us in the Pledge and then we sang God Bless America.  Bill then turned the meeting over to Barb.
  2. Hostesses:  Barb L. and Susan D.  Barbara reported 38 in attendance today which is pretty good for summer.  She welcomed Suzette Stein and Mary Taylor, two of our founding members and who don’t come often enough.   It was great to see you girls and don’t stay away so long please!
  3. Vice President:   Debbi S.:  As of this morning, we are now back up to 114 members, BUT we must remember out of those 114, 11 are honorary members and can’t be counted in a quorum, just an FYI.
Bill announced the birthday folks and told us all to stay for cake 😊 So as Armando gets up and is in the middle of telling us a hilarious joke about the CIA and assassinations and assassinators, we had a surprise guest – Chief Terry Rozema of our wonderful Marana Police Department!  Chief then felt he needed to try to top Armando’s joke and told a pretty good one of his own!  😊 Chief Rozema made a special effort to come and thank us all for our generous donations of food for the ranks.  He told us that it makes them feel like they are doing their job the right way and that it makes them feel appreciated.   It was good of him to stop by.
Secretary:   Kristi G.:   No corrections to the minutes and they were accepted.
  1. Treasurer:  Walt R.:   Walt reports $2,205.46 in the bank.   Please people, remember to put your money in the pot for coffee “and”.  It’s $2.00 for a cup of coffee which includes all refills; $1.00 for sweets. Thanks much.
  2. Coordinators Reports:
Sunshine Mary M.:  Mary spoke with Edna this week and Edna reports that Janet Kels fell and broke the same knee again!  She is at TMC and we know she’d love to get cards and calls.  Please keep Janet in your prayers as she is the founding member of SCRCR!
·         Historian:  Magda Q.:   No report, but thanks for the tabs.  Magda also brought up that Larry Lemieux is having extensive neck surgery Monday up at Mayo in Phoenix.  Let’s please keep Larry in our prayers and we know he is going to have a great outcome from this surgery!
·         Philanthropy:     No report.
·         Activities:  See activities listed below.  Note:  When you sign up for an activity, please let whoever oversees that activity know whether or not you’ll make it.  It’s embarrassing if you tell a place that 30 or 40 folks are coming to a function, so they set up for that, get extra help for that and then only 20 or so show up.    Please remember to RSVP if you are going to attend something and to let the person in charge know if you can’t make it.  Thanks.

  1. Group Concerns/Good of the Group

  • Kristi wanted to tell everyone about her wonderful experience last week swimming with Chloe the dolphin up in Scottsdale (believe it or not) at the Dolphinarious which is on the same campus as the new Aquarium and the Butterfly Garden.  It is an absolutely must do with grandkids or just go yourself with friends and do it.  It’s AWESOME!!!  If you want to know more, just call Kristi.
  • Joanne Ross just gave a quick reminder that she has the “Who’s Who” books for all the new members and the extra pages for anyone who needs them.

  1. Thought for the Day:  Sandy P.  No Sandy today but Debi read her thought and joke.  The thought for the day is “Ham and eggs are a day’s work for a chicken, but a lifetime commitment for a pig”.
The jokes were mostly great one-liners…. a sampling as follows:
On a plumber’s truck:  “Don’t sleep with a drip.  Call your plumber.”
On another plumber’s truck:  “We repair what your husband fixed.”
At a tire store:  “Invite us to your next blow out.”
On an electrician’s truck:  “Let us remove your shorts.”
On a maternity room door:  “Push, push, push.”
Outside a muffler shop:  “No appointment necessary, we hear you coming.”
  1. Adjournment:  Bill E.: Bill adjourned the meeting at 10:06 AM.
