Minutes of Meeting of May 26, 2011

1. Call to Order: Jim opened the meeting at 9:30 AM with the Pledge of Allegiance. He got the group warmed up with a few quiz questions again and then shared a few jokes.
2. Host/Hostess: Dennis and Alice: No new members. Welcomed back were: Mary T, Mike R. and Agnes.
3. Vice-President: Frank: absent. Walt reported that we now have 85 members.
4. Secretary: Jeanne: The minutes of May 19, 2011 were approved and accepted. 36 members attended today.
5. Treasurer: Walt: The total in our treasury at present is $1097.13.
6. Coordinators’ Reports:
a) Refreshments: Betty reported that refreshments were provided by Mary T. and Suzette S. Next week, refreshments will be provided by Bob, Bonnie and Eva.
b) Sunshine: Linda D: absent. JoAnn reported in her absence. Barbara H.’s brother has left but since she had an epidural, she is feeling better. Lynn L. played bridge this past week. Don and Vi are feeling much better. Bea is now home and getting physical therapy at home.
c) Historian: Magda: no report. She suggested that perhaps an interesting outing for SCRCR would be the Manning House (tour) before it is demolished since it is a very historical site.
d) Philanthropy: Betty: 40# of food went to the Food Bank this past week. Coupons were mailed. Sandy reported that the labels for education went to Coyote Trail School. Remember all the different donations which are eagerly accepted!
e) Busybody: JoAnn: Things seem to be going well! JoAnn and Walt will be gone next week and Gladys will take over during that time.
7. Activities: Carol A. a.) The AGAM luncheon today will be at Jimmy’s restaurant.
b.)Carol will have more information about the movie and Boston Pizza event next week.
c.) Anyone interested in going to the Ak Chin casino should let Betty know so that arrangements can be made.
d.)Lunch after the Model Train Museum excursion will be at The Elbow Room.
e.) Jorge had more information about the Kitt Peak event and he also had a lot of information about the U. of A. Sky Night Observation at Mt. Lemmon. For the Mt. Lemmon viewing the cost is $40.00 per person and it takes place for 5 hours (from 5 PM to 10 PM). No additional transportation is needed as one can drive there and back with the headlights on! They also provide a sack lunch. Reservations need to be made by next week and there is a $250.00 deposit required which is refundable with 24 hours notice. The group decided that the Mt. Lemmon Sky Night Observation was the event to try.
f.) Alice B. has 12 people signed up for the Gaslight Theatre on July 14th and she needs a total of 20 for the group discount. g.) JoAnn gave information on the Crossroads Park activities for the summer. Concerts will take place on the second Saturday of each month at 7:00 PM, starting with June 11th. Movies will be on the fourth Saturday of the month commencing on June 25th at 7:30 PM. These events are free.
8. Group Concerns: No issues presented.
9. Adjournment: Jim adjourned the meeting at 9:59 AM.
