Minutes of Meeting of May 12, 2011

1. Call to Order: Jim opened the meeting at 9:30 AM with the Pledge of Allegiance. He welcomed back John L. and then shared a couple of amusing stories.
2. Host/Hostess: Dennis and Alice: No new members. Welcomed back were: John L., Lily, Edna, Elaine and Agnes. Also welcomed as a guest of Larry and Jeanne was Melanie B. who is visiting from Utah.
3. Vice-President: Frank: absent. Walt reported that we now have 85 members.
4. Secretary: Jeanne: The minutes of May 5, 2011 were approved and accepted. 38 members attended today.
5. Treasurer: Walt: The total in our treasury at present is $1112.50.
6. Coordinators’ Reports:
a) Refreshments: Betty reported that refreshments were provided by Joan and Paul. Next week the refreshments will be provided by Al and Suzanne L’H.
b) Sunshine: Linda D: Barbara H. will be having some tests today. Her brother is still with her. Lynn L. is recovering from pneumonia. Bea was visited by Jim A. and she is not doing very well at present. Apparently she has been diagnosed with Crohn’s disease. Vi has been quite ill also.
c) Historian: Magda: no report. She would, however, like pictures from the last baseball game and the last birthday celebration. Both Lew and Bo will be able to help her out with this.
d) Philanthropy: Betty: 26# of food went to the Food Bank this past week as well as proceeds from Bo and Betty’s garage sale. Several boxes have already been received by the military. Please remember your donations – so many things are acceptable and useable for charity.
e) Busybody: JoAnn: Things are running quite smoothly now!
7. Activities: Carol A. 4 people attended the Farmer’s Market but it was a nice event. Lunch at Bub’s Grub was good with walleye pike being a featured item on the menu!
The time for the movie and meal at Boston’s will be decided next week.
Jorge reported on Kitt Peak. We have enough people signed up for the discount so the tickets will be $41.00 per person. Jorge advised us to bring blankets and warm clothing. This event will go from 6:00 -10:00 PM. Jorge will continue to get details about transportation. Also, it would be helpful if he could receive the $25.00 deposit from each person planning to attend.
Alice B. reported that the next Gaslight Theatre show will be Gnatman Returns on July 14th. Cost is $14.65 per person and she needs 20 people to sign up! Don’t forget Casino tomorrow!
The next 6 months of the agenda is complete and will be distributed soon.
8. Group Concerns: a.) Jim stated that Wendy Reuge is offering In Home Care and would like to present her service to the group but the group decided that if she has flyers, this would be adequate.
b.) Magda cautioned everyone that there have been 2 break-ins in Sunflower and these are homes which are presently vacant. Keep an eye out for any possible criminal behavior and call the police. A discussion followed re abandoned homes due to be foreclosed on and the state of the property. John reported that the HOA really can’t do anything about it until foreclosure is finalized. Jim suggested that the neighbors may have to get together to work on some of these poorly kept properties.
c.) Bo wanted to give his compliments to the Pool Staff especially Russell Clanagan for keeping large groups of kids out of the pool area if they are not residents. Residents are only allowed 5 guests each and some of these boys were arriving with groups as large as 20-25.
9. Adjournment: Jim adjourned the meeting at 10:00 AM.
