Minutes of Meeting of May 19, 2011

1. Call to Order: Jim opened the meeting at 9:30 AM with the Pledge of Allegiance. He got the group warmed up with a few quiz questions and then shared a few jokes.
2. Host/Hostess: Dennis and Alice: No new members. Welcomed back were: Iris, Shirley and Gladys.
3. Vice-President: Frank: absent. Walt reported that we now have 85 members.
4. Secretary: Jeanne: The minutes of May 12, 2011 were approved and accepted. 36 members attended today.
5. Treasurer: Walt: The total in our treasury at present is $1097.13.
6. Coordinators’ Reports:
a) Refreshments: Betty reported that refreshments were provided by Al and Suzanne L’H. Next week, refreshments will be provided by Mary T. and Suzette S.
b) Sunshine: Linda D: absent. Barbara H. has her brother still assisting her. Lynn L. has not been well. Don and Vi are now trying to recover from severe colds. Vi’s daughter is here helping them. Mary J. appears to be doing well.
c) Historian: Magda: no report. Still looking for pictures from the baseball game.
d) Philanthropy: Betty: No food went to the Food Bank this past week. Betty’s church members did visit the VA blind unit and she commented on the high level of appreciation those veterans had for their visit.
e) Busybody: JoAnn: Things seem to be going well!
7. Activities: Carol A. The AGAM luncheon today will be at the Native New Yorker.
The time for the movie and meal at Boston’s is 4:00 PM on June 10th. Dinner is $35.00 per couple. The menu is described in the sign up folder and this price includes the movie tickets which do not have to be used on that day.
Betty needs two weeks notice for the Ak Chin casino. Everybody should be back by 5:00 PM. Jorge reported on Kitt Peak. We have enough people signed up for the discount so the tickets will be $41.00 per person. Jorge advised us to bring blankets and warm clothing. This event will go from 6:00 -10:00 PM. Adobe transportation costs $35.00 per person with an extra $5.00 for tip. The program includes a sack lunch. This makes a grand total of $81.00 per person, so if you decide not to go, please remove your name from the signup sheet.
The Model Train Museum is offering a tour just for SCRCR members – this is the June 17th event. Entrance is free but donations are appreciated. Lunch will be at the Elbow Room afterward.
8. Group Concerns: a.) Jim stated that Wendy Reuge is offering In Home Care and a flyer is available with information on her services.
b.) Jim also stated that the Sunflower Laughlin trip is in the planning stages – no details as yet.
9. Adjournment: Jim adjourned the meeting at 9:55 AM.
