Minutes of Meeting for August 3, 2017

Minutes of Meeting for August 3, 2017

  • Call to Order:   Bill E. led us in the Pledge of Allegiance and singing God Bless America.  He then turned it over to Barb and Susan.  Then Bill told some a great joke supplied by Greg.
  • Hostesses Barb L.  and Susan D.  Barb counted 44 folks in attendance today.  Great crowd again for summer.  We welcomed back Alice and George R. and Barbara Romo is finally back in the fold for good!
  • Vice President:  Debi S. reports we have 114 members!  Deb also kindly made copies of all lists for those who don’t have computers.
  • Secretary:   Kristi G.:  The minutes for the July 27th meeting were approved.
  • Treasurer:  Walt R.:  Walt reports a total of $2,166.36 with $14.65 of that total in petty cash.  Let’s try to remember to put our money in the pot for coffee “and”.  It’s $2.00 for a cup of coffee which includes all refills; $1.00 for sweets. Thanks much.
  • Coordinators’ Reports:
a.       Sunshine Sandy P.:   No report again – now we are up to 4 weeks without anyone being ill.  Larry L. is going to check on Don O., because no one has heard anything about him in quite a while.  People let’s try to remember our past members if we could.  Just a quick phone call to say howdy and inquire how they are doing would be greatly appreciated by them for sure.
b.       Historian:  Magda Q.:  Magda kicked off our “History of Us” today.  She and Armando celebrated their 52nd wedding anniversary this past Monday and she found her beautiful high heels that she wore that day.  All the women could identify with them and wished we could cram our feet into a pair one more time, but alas, I don’t think it’s meant to be, well for most of us anyway.
c.       Philanthropy:  Jorge A.:   Jim and Walt will be taking this over for a month or so.  Please keep the checks coming.
d.       Hiking:  Jim A.:  No report as the hiking is over until fall
e.       Activities:  Pam M.:   See activities list below.
  • Group Concerns/Good of the Group
  • A discussion on all the various phone scams that we all get bombarded with from day-to-day, night-to-night.  George R. spoke about the fact that really, nothing is sacred anymore unfortunately.   Everyone has access to everyone no matter how many times you asked to be taken off lists.  The “bad guys” always figure out a way.
  • Craig S. will kindly stay after next week’s meeting to teach pinocle to anyone who would like to learn.
  • Sandy P. told us of another scam involving Back to School supplies – how low can people go….

  • Thought for the Day:  Sandy P.  had a wonderful thought for the day and a great joke as always.
  • Adjournment:  Bill E.  The meeting ended at 10:26 AM.
