Minutes of Meeting for August 17, 2017

Minutes of Meeting for August 17, 2017

  • Call to Order:   We had a little “glitch” this morning.  When we arrived at The Station we were locked out so being the versatile, sensible folks we are, we just made ourselves to home out front.  Thanks Clint for leaving the tables and chairs out for us 😊  In any event, we were saved by “cook” who showed up about a quarter til 9 and let us all in.  Again, being the take charge, versatile folks we are, we all pitched in and got all the chairs placed in order around the tables and the bar.  Bill E. led us in the Pledge of Allegiance and singing God Bless America.  He then turned it over to Barb cause Susan and Gene had to leave early.  Then Bill told some a couple of great jokes supplied by Richard B.
  • Hostesses Barb L.  and Susan D.  Barb counted 34 folks in attendance today.
  • Vice President:  Debi S. reports we have 115 members!
  • Secretary:   Kristi G.:  The minutes for the August 10th meeting were approved.
  • Treasurer:  Walt R.:  Walt had some bad news that Barbara Bertles passed away last week.  We did send memoriam.  Walt reports a total of $2,139.77 with $15.65 of that total in petty cash.  Let’s try to remember to put our money in the pot for coffee “and”.  It’s $2.00 for a cup of coffee which includes all refills; $1.00 for sweets. Thanks much.
  • Coordinators’ Reports:
a.       Sunshine Sandy P.:   No report again – now we are up to 6 weeks without anyone being ill woohoo!!!!  Sandy also reported that she had just received a text that Jim A. just bought 4 new tires and shocks 😊. Sandy also reports that George S. is undergoing a back procedure next Friday to put a “thingy” (technical terminology) in his back to control the pain.  Let’s keep George in our prayers and pray that the procedure works well for him!
b.       Historian:  Magda Q.:  Magda introduced Paul B. for some history of his family.  He brought his Grandfather’s walking stick that dates back to the mid-late 1800’s.  The folks in Germany took “walking vacations” and used these walking sticks.  At each town they stopped in, they would receive a pretty little “plaque” that they would affix to the stick.  This stick was covered in these plaques from all over Germany.  We can only imagine the beautiful things that Paul’s Grandpa experienced during his walking vacations.  Thank you for sharing Paul and we can let our imaginations enjoy the beauty that your Grandpa saw.
c.       Philanthropy:  Jorge A.:   Walt will take over until John Z. returns in about 2 weeks.  Please keep the checks coming.
d.       Hiking:  Jim A.:  No report as the hiking is over until fall
e.       Activities:  Pam M.:   See activities list below.
  • Group Concerns/Good of the Group
  • You’ll be able to experience the eclipse at the Wheeler-Taft library on Monday and they have “eclipse glasses” but from what I’ve heard only 100 pair on a first come/first serve basis.  Not sure if that is the deal but I’d get there early just in case it is.
  • Dorie Z. asked that I send out the attached.
  • Sharon S. thanked everyone for her birthday card 😊
  • Sadly, Pam M. resigned as Activities Coordinator.  We hope someone will step up for the rest of this year to take over.
  • 34 of us had lunch today at The Station and it was very enjoyable.

Thought of the Day:  Sandy P. had a super great thought for the day and a cute joke.

Adjournment:  Bill E. ended the meeting at 9:27 AM.
