Minutes of Meeting 11 March 2010

1. Call to Order: President Jim Alam called the meeting to order at 9:35 AM, followed by the Pledge of Allegiance. Jim shared some entertaining stories with the group.

2. Host/Hostess: Bonnie and Bob Vantrepotte had one new guest to introduce: Sharon Jones-Christy. Welcomed back was Janet Knebel, who assured us that she is doing well and then she shared information about Frank Kells .

3. Vice-President: Frank reported that we now have 72 members, 71 of whom are paid up with their dues.

4. Secretary: Jeanne: The minutes of Feb.25th were approved. 44 members were in attendance today. Please notify Jeanne if there are any changes to the agenda.
5. Treasurer: Walt: Total money available to us at present is $769.88.

6. Coordinators’ Reports:
6.1 Refreshments: Jorge and Linda A.: Refreshments this week were provided by Joan Marchese; Larry and Jeanne Lemieux. Next week’s refreshments will be provided by Tony and Sandy Padilla.

6.2 Sunshine: Linda D.: Kay Peptis is at home and bored. She is getting physical therapy and doing well. No new reports about Ruth L.

6.3 Magda : Absent – no report.

6.4 Philanthropy: Betty: 32# of food and a check for $20.00 went to the Marana Food Bank this past week. Boxes for Armed Forces members will go out on the last Thursday of April. Make sure Betty has addresses and she will bring a list of the most needed items.

6.5 Busybody: Gladys: Have Gladys’ phone number handy or in cell phones so that if there is an emergency, she can be reached and make the necessary contacts. Gladys can be reached at 520-292-9228.

6.6 Activities: Barbara Herron filled in for Alice B. and reported that the new activity schedule through July, 2010, is printed and available. Betty still has one ticket available for the ball game. Checks for the Gaslight Theater production on Apr. 27th are due by Apr. 15th. Much discussion followed re how to celebrate Mother’s Day this year and no decision was made. Feel free to submit further input to the activity committee.

7. Group Concerns: a.) Joann: hiking went well yesterday at Parker Canyon Lake, but it was a long hike. Hiking participants will meet after today’s SCRCR meeting to determine next Wednesday’s destination.
b.) Members from the N.W. YWCA presented information about the Silver Sneaker program. Any volunteers; suggestions, etc. may be submitted to Executive Director Mike Reuwsaat @ 520-229-9001 X 108.
c.) Sandy took box tops for education to Roadrunner school and requested more.
d.) Dennis shared that a Civil War reenactment will take place at Picacho Peak on Saturday, Mar. 13th @ 1:00 PM, followed by a concert
. e.) Mike R. encouraged all to attend The Tucson Festival of Books this Sat. and Sun. starting @ 10 AM. Information may be obtained by googling “Tucson Festival of Books”.
f.) CRCA HOA needs volunteers to assist with the Easter egg hunt on Apr. 3rd – contact Jocelyn.
g.) Barb H. commented on the anniversary of the “Crash of the Osprey” which will be remembered at Marana Airport on Apr. 10th.
h.) Jim called for a meeting of officers after the SCRCR meeting. He also informed us to examine the changes in by laws (which were e-mailed to members) and to submit any comments to him via e-mail (brokenbow2@msn.com). He would like a motion by next meeting to approve the changes and he acknowledged his appreciation of the work done by the by laws committee.
i.) Joan T. brought up the issue of the potential pollution of the aquifer in Marana if a landfill is established over part of it. She encouraged us to write letters; sign petitions, etc., expressing our thoughts on this issue. Janet stressed the effectiveness of letters over petitions.
j.) Betty has tickets for the “Tribute to George Strait” country music special on May 3rd at the Gaslight. They are $19.40 per person – contact her if interested.
k.) Bo will take any hazardous materials anyone may have (including prescription meds.) and dispose of them – contact him for details.
