Minutes of Meeting for May 18, 2017

Minutes of Meeting for May 18, 2017

  1. Call to Order:   Bill E. led us in the Pledge of Allegiance and we sang God Bless America.  Bill E. then introduced Barb.
  2. Hostesses Susan D. and Barb L.:  Barb told us that both Susan and Gene were ill and would not be with us for a while. She’d counted 34 members in attendance. In Susan’s absence, Bill offered several hilarious one-liners contributed by Iles.
  3. Vice-President:   Debbi S.:   Debbi reports we still have a total of 112 members.
  4. Secretary:   Cynthia D.M. sat in for Kristi G.:  The minutes for May 11, 2017 were approved.
  5. Treasurer:  Walt R.:  Walt reported we have a total of $2,443.32 in the bank.
  6. Coordinators’ Reports:
a.      Sunshine Sandy P.:   Sandy was again glad to report that there were no new serious illnesses.
b.      Historian:  Magda Q.:  Magda thanked everyone for their tabs and said she hopes to fill 11 jars this year at least. She also updated us on what sounded like an idyllic Mexican vacation on the shores of the Sea of Cortez.
c.      Philanthropy:  Jorge again thanked everyone for the canned goods and other items donated for the Food Bank. He said we had about $117 in cash and 25 pounds of canned goods and other items so far. Donations will be taken to the Food Bank at the end of the month.
d.      Hiking:  Jim A.:  No report as the hiking is over until fall.
e.      Activities:  Pam M.:   Pam did not attend, but Hilde brought in the sign-up sheets for her. See activities list below.  Bill told us a few more jokes in lieu of an activities report.
7.     Group Concerns/Good of the Group
·        Betty handed out brochures for Nunn Better, a company which does in-Home Pet Care
·        Magda expressed consternation about comments made by a bank teller that seemed condescending to seniors. Jorge reminded us that the people who serve us in banks and elsewhere often have a “script” they’re required to follow with each customer even when they don’t like it. But Magda is pretty sure that particular bank teller won’t run through that particular “script” the next time they meet.
  1. Thought of the Day:  Sandy gave us some particularly thoughtful words to live by.
  2. Adjournment:  Bill E.  The meeting ended at 9:59 AM.
