Minutes of Meeting for April 27, 2017

  1. Call to Order:   Bill E. led us in the Pledge of Allegiance and Dorie led us in singing God Bless America.  Bill then turned the meeting over to Barb and Susan.  After Susan and Barb were done, Bill told a couple of really cute jokes and we then got on with the meeting.
  2. Hostesses Susan D. and Barb L.  Barb counted 47 members in attendance today.   We welcomed back Billie D. Bob and Nancy P., George and Alice R.  We miss you all when you aren’t here
  3. Vice-President:   Debbi S.:   Debbi reports we still have a total of 112 members.   She also is now keeping the emergency numbers and all board members will have this list with them at each meeting, should a need arise.
  4. Secretary:   Kristi G.:  The minutes for April 20, 2017 were approved.  I’m still looking for volunteers to do the minutes while I’m on vacation.  Please let me know if you are interested.
  5. Treasurer:  Walt R.:  Walt reports we have a total of $2,525.92 - $14.65 in petty cash and $2,511.27 in the bank.  We have been short in the coffee money again, so let’s try to remember to put our money in the pot.  It’s $2.00 for a cup of coffee which includes all refills; $1.00 for sweets.
  6. Coordinators’ Reports:
a.       Sunshine Dorie Z.:   Dorie reports that most everyone is doing pretty ok.  Joyce had some surgery and she is doing very well.  Hope to see her back here soon.  We miss you Joyce!  Cheryl and Barc are getting better every day.    Larry’s hip replacement surgery is still scheduled for May 2.  Again, let’s keep him in our prayers for a quick and pain free and problem free recovery!   Unfortunately, Jim A., lost his sister this past Saturday morning.  Let’s keep Jim and Linda and the family in our prayers.  We are so sorry for your loss Jim.
b.       Historian:  Magda Q.:  Magda and Armando are on vacation for 3 weeks in beautiful Mexico.
c.       Philanthropy:  John Z.: John took out $132.00 and 20 pounds of food to the food bank.  Since John and Dorie are leaving us for Wisconsin early in May, John has turned the reins over to Jorge.  Jorge asked that we all do some spring cleaning and clean out our cabinets of food we won’t be using and bring it to the meeting.  He will have a crate to collect foodstuffs every week.
d.       Hiking:  Jim A.:  No report as the hiking is over until fall.
e.       Activities:  Pam M.:   See activities list below.
7.      Group Concerns/Good of the Group
·         Julie S. is still collecting the greeting cards (fronts only) to send to St. Jude Hospital as well as toiletries that you may pick up in your travels from the hotel/motels for the homeless/battered woman’s shelter.
·         Joanne R. has the “Who’s Who” books and will give them to members who are in good standing.
·         Janet K. is working with some folks to get walkers and wheelchairs marked with white like the white canes for the blind.  If you hear of someone talking about this, tell them you are all for it.  We should all get behind this movement.  We’ll try to find out more about this.
·         Bill E. told us about the bluegrass fest at Orna Mae Horner Park all weekend long.  Friday is free, there is a charge for Saturday and Sunday.
  1. Thought of the Day:  Sandy gave us a real zinger to think about at the end of the meeting.
  2. Adjournment:  Bill E.  The meeting ended at 9:54 AM.
