Minutes of Meeting for December 6, 2018
Call to Order: Bill E. led us in the Pledge and then we sang God Bless America. Bill then turned the meeting over to our guest speakers – Dr Bruce Sadilek N.M.D of Integrative Medical Associates and Mike Schmidt of Nature Med Inc.. After a very informative presentation, there were many questions. More information can be found about Integrative Medical Associates at https://drsadilek.com/ and more about Nature Med athttps://naturemedinc.com/
The rest of our meeting was shortened because of our guest speakers.
1. Hostesses: Barb L. and Susan D. Barb reports 55 in attendance today. Some of those were guests accompanying members because of the talk. It is hoped that those people will return to join our happy group.
2. Vice President: Debbi S.: We are at 118 members.
3. Secretary (temporary in Kristi’s absence): No time for report but I apologize if I've made any errors in these minutes.
4. Treasurer: Walt R.: No time for report.
Please people, remember to put your money in the pot for coffee “and”. It’s $2.00 for a cup of coffee which includes all refills; $1.00 for iced tea and $1.00 for sweets. We’ve been short for the past month. Even if you just have a glass of water, put a little something in the bucket. Thanks much.
5. Coordinators’ Reports:
We heard the very sad news that one of our founding members, Lew MacDonald, had passed away on 14th November. Here is a link to his obituary - https://tinyurl.com/yc79hl2n
Activities: See activities listed below. Note: When you sign up for an activity, please let whoever oversees that activity know whether you’ll make it. It’s embarrassing if you tell a place that 30 or 40 folks are coming to a function, so they set up for that, get extra help for that and then only 20 or so show up. Please remember to RSVP if you are going to attend something and to let the person in charge know if you can’t make it. Thanks.
6. Group Concerns/Good of the Group
ü Wally Gazdzik would like everyone to know about an upcoming event on December 15th that sounds like a lot of fun for the whole family. It is the Southern Arizona Transportation Museum presents free family fun at the Historic Train Depot. It’s on Saturday, December 15th beginning at 10:00 AM. The Depot is located at 414 N. Toole in downtown Tucson. The phone is 520.623.2223. The kids can talk with Santa and get a picture with him in front of Locomotive 1673 (the star of the movie “Oklahoma”). You can join in singing holiday music, you can write a letter to Santa at the North Pole (with the Tucson Postal History Museum Elves’ help). You can look at the museum’s bilingual exhibits, new live action displays with actual operating trains. You can listen to a reading of the “Polar Express”. You can climb into the cab of steam locomotive 11673. Shop in the gift store, see the railroad art exhibits and train layout in the Amtrak lobby and an arts and crafts show! There is plenty of FREE parking around the Depot. Go to www.TucsonHistoricDepot.org for more information.
ü When doing your Christmas cards this year, take a minute and send one to:
A Recovering American Soldier c/o Walter Reed Army Medical Center, 6900 Georgia Avenue NW, Washington, DC 20307-5001. Please pass this on to your friends and family so that those that have sacrificed so much for us and our freedoms, won’t feel forgotten at this most special time of year.
ü Wally and Julie Gazdzik are still collecting gently used towels and blankets for the Humane Society of Southern Arizona. Julie read where they need these for all the rescued and abandoned pets that they get there. So please go through your linen closets and see what you can come up with for a very worthy cause.
ü Barb Lebowitz asked me to tell you all that if you used Rob Pelfreyman for your landscaping needs, he is no longer in business. He has turned his business over to someone else and Barb has that name and number.
ü Jorge Anda and his committee are considering the submissions for ‘Member of the Year’.
ü Dennis Foster is still collecting your empty pill bottles for the Pima Animal Care facility. They need them to give out to folks who may adopt or foster dogs/cats who may need medication when they leave their facility.
7. Adjournment: Bill E.: Bill adjourned the meeting at 10:25 AM.
