Minutes of Meeting for December 13, 2018

Minutes of Meeting for December 13, 2018

Call to Order:   Bill E.  led us in the Pledge and then we sang God Bless America.

1.       Hostesses:  Barb L. and Susan D.  Barb reports 61 in attendance today.  Bill confirmed that we had 19 people at his house on Tuesday – three pinochle tables and one domino table.  Thank you to Bill and Elizabeth for their continued hosting and especially the two pots of coffee and salmon mousse!  There were 17 people who went to the ROMEO breakfast, also on Tuesday.
2.       Vice President:   Debbi S.:  We are at 118 members We had one new member join, Jim, who attended the meeting last week.
3.       Secretary (temporary in Kristi’s absence):   Everything was OK with the minutes.
4.       Treasurer:  Walt R.:    Walt confirmed that the checks were being cut for $300 for the following charities: (1) Gospel Rescue Mission, (2) Humane Society of Tucson, (3) Fischer House (4) Youth on Their Own. This was great as it was one more check than last year!  We will also be writing a check for $200 for Clint at The Station to thank him for his support during the year. Members were reminded to sign up for lunch at The Station after games on the third Thursday of each month.  This also thanks them for their support.

Walt wrote a check for $7 to make up for the shortfall in the ‘coffee’ fund. The petty cash fund has $3.04 and we have $1710 in the bank.

Please people, remember to put your money in the pot for coffee, etc.  It’s $2.00 for a cup of coffee which includes all refills; $1.00 for iced tea and $1.00 for sweets. We’ve been short for the past month.  Even if you just have a glass of water, put a little something in the bucket

5.       Coordinators Reports:

Sunshine:            Barbara R will be taking this over in the New Year as Mary will be treasurer.  Betty N will take over arranging the birthday cake as Sharon will be president (of our group).

Historian:  Magda Q.:   Magda told of her feelings that resurfaced as she watched 41’s memorial service.  She reminded us to light a candle to all service personnel – past and present.

Activities:  See activities listed below.  Note:  When you sign up for an activity, please let whoever oversees that activity know whether you’ll make it.  It’s embarrassing if you tell a place that 30 or 40 folks are coming to a function, so they set up for that, get extra help for that and then only 20 or so show up.    Please remember to RSVP if you are going to attend something and to let the person in charge know if you can’t make it.  This is particularly important when we have something like the Opry in February which has 40 people signed up AND a waiting list! Thanks.

6.       Group Concerns/Good of the Group

ü  When doing your Christmas cards this year, take a minute and send one to:
A Recovering American Soldier c/o Walter Reed Army Medical Center, 6900 Georgia Avenue NW, Washington, DC 20307-5001.  Please pass this on to your friends and family so that those that have sacrificed so much for us and our freedoms, won’t feel forgotten at this most special time of year.

ü  Wally and Julie Gazdik are still collecting gently used towels and blankets for the Humane Society of Southern Arizona.  Julie read where they need these for all the rescued and abandoned pets that they get there.  So please go through your linen closets and see what you can come up with for a very worthy cause.

ü  Jorge Anda and his committee are considering the submissions for ‘Member of the Year’.

ü  Dennis Foster is still collecting your empty pill bottles for the Pima Animal Care facility.  They need them to give out to folks who may adopt or foster dogs/cats who may need medication when they leave their facility.  PACC have confirmed that they only want the small prescription bottles.

7.       Sandi – thought for the day

When my arms can’t reach people who are close to my heart, I always hug them with my prayers

Birdie, birdie in the sky
Why'd you drop that in my eye
I won't sigh, I won't cry
I'm only glad that cows don't fly

8.       Adjournment:  Bill E.: Bill adjourned the meeting at 10:20 AM.
