Minutes of Meeting for August 23, 2018
Call to Order: Bill E. led us in the Pledge and then we sang God Bless America. Throughout the meeting, Bill shared some great jokes. People, please feel free to volunteer funnies anytime to keep the group laughing. Bill then turned the meeting over to Barb.
- Hostesses: Barb L. and Susan D. Barb reported 32 in attendance today. Barbara welcomed back Cheryl and Barc who were supposed to be in Hawaii for their 50th anniversary but, Mother Nature ruined that. Hopefully they’ll be going on a cruise later one when the weather is better. Rose, Jan, and Cynthia were also welcomed back. We miss you all when you aren’t here!
- Vice President: Debbi S.: We are at 117 members.
- Secretary: Kristi G.: No corrections to the minutes and they were accepted.
- Treasurer: Walt R.: Walt reports $2,021.12 in the bank. Please people, remember to put your money in the pot for coffee “and”. It’s $2.00 for a cup of coffee which includes all refills; $1.00 for sweets. Thanks much.
- Coordinators’ Reports:
Sunshine: Mary M.: Mary told us that Gayle Cocker will be having hip surgery on Monday. Let’s put the prayers in action for a speedy, pain-free recovery for Gayle. Also, I spoke with Elaine and she is doing better and wanted to thank everyone for their thoughts, cards, prayers and phone calls. We should please continue prayers for Elaine as well.
· Historian: Magda Q.: No report, but she is still collecting pull tabs from cans for Ronald McDonald House. We need to fill 10 jars by the end of March, 2019 and she’s just finishing off the 4th one so please drink up folks!😊
· Philanthropy: No report today.
· Activities: See activities listed below. Note: When you sign up for an activity, please let whoever oversees that activity know whether or not you’ll make it. It’s embarrassing if you tell a place that 30 or 40 folks are coming to a function, so they set up for that, get extra help for that and then only 20 or so show up. Please remember to RSVP if you are going to attend something and to let the person in charge know if you can’t make it. Thanks.
- Group Concerns/Good of the Group
- Julie and Wally raise chickens so they are going to bring in fresh eggs for us in two weeks. If you want to buy some fresh eggs, bring in some empty egg cartons. Any monies received for the eggs, Julie and Wally are donating to the Food Bank! Let’s hear it for them! That’s a lovely gesture and just think of it folks, fresh eggs and you’ll be helping a worthy cause.
- Barbara Romo’s grandson has a school project where he’s combining his two loves. The love of music by learning and playing the guitar and woodworking by actually making a guitar out of….are you ready for this…skateboard “decks” the actual wood that you skate on. So clean out your garages and check with your grandchildren and see if they have any skateboards they want to get rid of. I know I’m going to donate mine! 😊
- Bill would like us to start thinking about different charities that we want to donate to at Christmas time and get those charities emailed to John Zimmerman when he gets back here. Then get your votes for “Member of the Year” to Jorge Anda when he comes back.
- I found out about the shoes for Jim and Linda’s granddaughter Chris. She is collecting them to raise funds for her soccer team. You can call her directly at 520.873.8270 for her to pick up or bring them to The Station for the next 2 Thursdays only, as the drive is over September 5th and I’ll collect them and get them to her. They are taking new and gently used shoes, boots, any kind, any size and they send them to South America and Africa where they again, are put to good use in fund raising.
- Joanne Ross will have “Who’s Who” books the all the new people as well as Page 18 for anyone missing that one.
- Dennis Foster put out there that he is collecting your empty pill bottles for the Pima Animal Care facility. They need them to give out to folks who may adopt or foster dogs/cats who may need medication when they leave their facility.
- Thought for the Day: Sandy P. Sandy’s Thoughts and jokes were two-fold.
“Being negative only makes a difficult journey more difficult – you may be given a cactus, but you don’t have to sit on it.”
“Always pray to have eyes that see the best in people, a heart that forgives the worst, a mind that forgets the bad, and a soul that never loss faith in God.”
The joke of the day also was two-fold….
“When I was little, I laughed when my mom crossed her legs when she sneezed…..I no longer find that funny.”
“Sometimes the thoughts in my head get bored and go for a stroll out through my mouth. This is never a good thing.”
- Adjournment: Bill E.: Bill adjourned the meeting at 9:58 AM.
