Minutes of Meeting for March 29, 2018
1. Call to Order: Bill led the group in the Pledge and singing God Bless America and then turned the meeting over to Magda who gave a short remembrance of our 3 ladies that we lost recently. Carol and Gladys both were members for over 18 years. Joyce about 12 to 14 years. Gladys was our adventurous one even taking the mule ride down and back up into the Grand Canyon at the tender age of 80! Gladys was the first to volunteer for whatever was needed. Carol was a true Marine wife to her dear Eddie and reminded us that they weren’t soldiers but Servicemen to our Country! Joyce was our activist who once started a petition against the Board who eventually kicked us out of the Community Center! Bad for them, good for us! Joyce was a great activities chair who knew how to delegate to have her committee help her with these tasks.
2. Hostesses: Barb L. and Susan D. Barb counted 56 folks again today. Barb and Susan welcomed two new visitors who instantly because members Bill and Lori – WELCOME!! They also welcomed back Kate and Don H., Elaine H. and Rose! Susan also talked about how we all take care of one another in the wake of our recent losses.
3. Vice President: Debbi S. Debbi reports 10 members.
4. Secretary: Kristi G.: No minutes for March 22nd meeting because Kristi was absent.
5. Treasurer: Walt R.: Walt reported we have $2,344.67 in the bank. He also reports we gave the Marana Food Bank $70.00 last week and 5# of food. Please remember to put money in the pot for coffee “and”. It’s $2.00 for a cup of coffee which includes all refills; $1.00 for sweets. Thanks much. We broke even last week – a first in a very long time!!!!
6. Coordinators’ Reports:
7. Sunshine: Dorie Z.: Dorie lightened the mood by reporting that I was cited in the Marana News as getting an award from the Marana Police Department for helping to digitize their records which she found pretty amazing being as all the trouble I have with getting the minutes out to everyone 😊 George Rigney then asked where all the police records really are and I replied that they were probably up the cloud with all the minutes that didn’t make it through to everyone 😊 I can’t explain it people, it’s computers, what more can I say…..
· Historian: Magda Q.: No report but she needs more tabs, drink up people 😊
· Philanthropy: John Z.: No report.
· Activities: Linda A: See activities listed below. NOTE: When you sign up for a luncheon or dinner, please let the people who are in charge of it know whether or not you can make the function. It gets embarrassing when you say 40 people are going to show up and the place sets up for that and gets extra help for that and then only 25 or 30 show up. Please remember to RSVP if you are going to something and to let someone know if you can’t make it.
8. Group Concerns/Good of the Group
ü We took up a collection like we always do for Carol and Joyce and we will do it again next week. So far, we have collected over $350.00!
ü Rose thanked everyone for cards and calls while she was laid up and she is doing much better.
ü Val will be taking pictures of all the “new kids” next week.
ü I forgot who said it, but someone told us that every Wednesday at Kohl’s is “Senior Day” and we get a 15% discount!
9. Thought for the Day: Sandy P. Sandy thanked everyone for the cards and calls to Carol and said she enjoyed them so much. She had a great thought for the day as always and a cute joke.
10. Adjournment: Bill E.: The meeting ended at 10:02 AM.
