Minutes of Meeting for March 1, 2018

Minutes of Meeting for March 1, 2018

1.       Call to Order:   Bill E. led us in the Pledge of Allegiance and singing God Bless America, then turned the meeting over to Sandy who was our “Sunshine Lady” this morning because Dorie was not feeling well.  Sandy reports that Rose is getting better and instead of being all purple, she has progressed to yellow!  Hopefully by next week the bruising will be gone and we can have our dear Rose back with us.  Also, Maria is still in a lot of pain unfortunately and undergoing therapy for that.  Carol is doing as well as can be expected and would welcome short visits.  Joan Travis is back here and staying with Carol.  Please give a quick call before stopping in.   Prayers for all please.
Bill then turned the meeting over to Whitney from Northwest Hospital who introduced Dr. Steven Shapiro, a shoulder, arm and hand surgeon who gave an informative talk to us.
2.       Hostesses:  Barb L.  and Susan D.  Barb counted 45 folks today.  Barb and Susan welcomed back all the folks who were sick and all the new members and our Iles who had taken his Jada to Greece for Valentine’s Day – lucky girl!   Susan thanked all for the cards and e-mails and mostly the prayers for Gene.   He’s getting better each day.
3.       Vice President:  Debbi S.  Debbi says we are now around 118 members.
4.       Secretary:   Kristi G.:  There was a motion to approve the minutes for February 22nd, the motion was seconded, and the minutes were approved.
5.      Treasurer:  Walt R.:  Walt first thanked everyone again for their well wishes when he was ill and then reported we have $2,310.07 of which $17.66 is in petty cash.     Please remember to put money in the pot for coffee “and”.  It’s $2.00 for a cup of coffee which includes all refills; $1.00 for sweets. Thanks much.
PLEASE NOTE – DUES ARE DUE!  We are extending this until the end of March.  Please either come by on Thursday morning or mail them in to Walt Ross at:  Walt Ross, 8914 N. Veridian Drive, Tucson, AZ 85743.
6.      Coordinators’ Reports:
·         Sunshine Dorie Z.:  Sandy gave report.
·         Historian:  Magda Q.:  No report but she needs more tabs, drink up people 😊
·         Philanthropy:  John Z.:  John took $117.00 and 60# of food to the food bank.  Good Job!
·         Activities:  Joyce G:   See activities listed below.  NOTE:  When you sign up for a luncheon or dinner, please let the people who are in charge of it know whether or not you can make the function.  It gets embarrassing when you say 40 people are going to show up and the place sets up for that and gets extra help for that and then only 25 or 30 show up.  Please remember to RSVP if you are going to something and to let someone know if you can’t make it.

7.      Group Concerns/Good of the Group

ü  Cindy T. has a friend who is giving away an upright piano.  If anyone is interested, please give Cindy Tolleson a call.
ü  Betty Nothcott’s daughter is active in fund raising for Catalina K9’s Inc., which is a group that trains search and rescue dogs.  They are having a fund raiser next Wednesday March 7th from 4 to 8 PM at Texas Roadhouse.  Texas Roadhouse will donate 10% of your total food purchase to this great group.  You need a flyer to get the discount, so get in touch with Betty and she will see that you get one. This is a very worthy cause.
ü  Jim Alam told of a car museum up toward Maricopa, where the man makes model cards and that it’s very interesting and it’s free, just a donation.  Joyce says there is also talk of going to Organ Pipe Pizza in Phoenix, so this could probably be combined into a day trip.  Please let Jim and/or Joyce know if you are interested in this.
8.      Thought for the Day:  Sandy P.  No Sandy so no thought for the day or jokes.  We were running late.
9.       Adjournment:  Bill E.:  The meeting ended at 10:29 AM.
