Minutes of Meeting Held May 21, 2009
1. Call to Order: President Joan Travis-Triumph opened the meeting at 9:30 AM and led the pledge of allegiance. Thirty-five people were present.
2. Host/Hostess: Ed & Collette: New member Jeanne Lemieux was introduced. New to Tucson, she is a retired RN; her husband will be joining her in July.
3. Vice-President: Jim: In Jim’s absence, Walt told a story about drinking from a pond.
4. Secretary: Lew: Last week’s minutes were passed as printed.
5. Treasurer: Walt: Financial status: Checking: $759, Cash: $8, Total: $767. (No extra-ordinary expenses were incurred.)
6. Coordinators Reports:
6.1 Refreshments: Jan & Linda A.: Today’s refreshments were by Carol & Ed with Jorge. (If unable to help as scheduled, please let Linda or Jan know by Tuesday, if possible.)
6.2 Sunshine: John & Linda D. (a) Ernie has recovered to the point where Debbie went back to work. (b) Carol reported that Elaine Schwartz was back home after a trip to NMC for heart fibrillation. Chuck’s Alzheimer’s continues. Please call if you hear of any health issues.
6.3 Philanthropy: Betty: 175 lbs of food plus $10 check were taken to the Food Bank. Betty said that hygienic products were also welcome.
6.4 Activities: Alice: (in Denver). See the attached agenda for events in the next few weeks.
7. Old and/or New Business: None.
8. Good of the Group: (a) Papa Murphy’s are providing free samples of their pizza on the 28th of this month. The establishment is a “take and bake” facility but the samples will be pre-cooked for us. ….. (b) Only five members were going to the Train Museum. ….. (c) Instead of going to the (closed) Red Sky Restaurant for Father’s Day, Luna Bella has agreed to the same terms ($14.95) and a reservation was made in our name. ….. (d) Lew mentioned that El Charro at Oracle & Orange Grove had also closed, but they have opened a new branch in Oro Valley. ….. (e) Ed A. reminded us to fly our flags on 14-June. ….. (f) JoAnn said that Marana was still teaching Line Dancing at our local church and they were having Water Aerobics and Ballet at the Marana swimming pool. ….. (g) Barbara H. informed us of a meeting on 6-June at Marana Civic Center, regarding erection of a 75 ft cell phone tower. John urged people to show up in person instead of mailing the petition that was distributed. ….. (h) Ed D. suggested taking money from the treasury to get stuff for the Military parcels. Betty pointed out that we already take cash to pay for the boxes and mailing thereof. ….. (i) Joan M. told us that the Tower Theater was only $5 on Thursdays; Foothills ditto on Tuesdays.
