Minutes of Meeting of May 8, 2014
1.       Call to Order:  The meeting was opened at 9:30 AM by Lou M. with the Pledge of Allegiance. 
2.       Host/Hostess:  Barbara  L &  Susan D  Welcomed back Don and Hilde B., Joan T., Nina
L., Dana D, Pete M.  Barbara L. is back from a wonderful trip to Pennsylvania. They love her there too.  
3.       Vice-President:  Dorothy B. reported membership stands at 97.  
4.       Secretary:  Barbara R. The minutes of May 1, 2014 were approved.  Attendance was 50.
5.       Treasurer:   Carol A.  The total in the treasury is $1,355.00.  Coffee fund $45.00  
6.       Coordinators’ Reports:
a.       Refreshments:  Coffee and tea are $1.00 per cup.  Pastries are $1.00 each.
b.       Sunshine:  Stan S. MRI last week showed slight improvement.  Treatment will continue.  Love to all from him and Suzette.   Please notify Sandy if you know of anyone who is ill or needs assistance.
c.        Historian:  Magda Q. absent
d.       Philanthropy:  Mike Titone reported delivering 28 pounds of food to the Marana Food Bank along with $10.00 cash.
e.        Busybody:  Don’t forget to update emergency info with JoAnn.   Hiking season is over until the Fall.
f.         Activities:   Joyce has asked that anyone who cannot attend an activity they signed up for please, call the coordinator and let them know you can’t make it.   For Joyce’s list of activities thru August. See agenda page. 
     
7.     Group Concerns/Good of the Group:
a.) Lew M. will be having a downsizing sale and keepsake distribution this Sat., May 10th from 1pm.   b.) Dennis F. announced that the last Southern Arizona Symphony Orchestra Concert of the season will be preformed at St. Andrew’s Presbyterian Church, Sunday, May 11 at 3pm.  The program is, Shostakovich: Festive Overture; Rodrigo: Concierto de Aranjuez (Roberto Capocchi, guitar); and Beethoven: Symphony No. 9 (with soloists and chorus). Another performance will take place Monday, May 12 at 7:30pm, at PCC, Proscenium Theater.  c.)  Edna noted that the Continental Ranch Association Board has sent out an opinion survey regarding keeping the Windmill Pool open during the winter.  The Board contends that only 1% of residents use the open pool during winter, suggesting the dollars to keep it open, do not serve the community as a whole. Members questions and suggestions followed. d.)  Jim A. spoke of being a hospital volunteer and distributed Northwest Med. Ctr. Volunteer Applications. e.) Gary Gufpafsen, a representative from The Alzheimer’s Association, will present information about this formidable disease May 29th after  meeting.
